Extreme Dive Fuvahmulah

Extreme Dive Fuvahmulah has been a fixture of the Maldivian diving scene since 2006. Situated on the unique island of Fuvahmulah, the centre is widely recognised for its ability to deliver consistent encounters with Tiger sharks, making it a focal point for divers seeking high-adrenaline pelagic action.

The centre operates as a full-service facility, providing everything from professional instruction to organised transfers. Whether you are arriving via domestic flight from Male' or taking the speedboat from Addu, the team manages the logistics to ensure you can focus entirely on the water.

The team is composed of experienced local professionals who understand the specific currents and marine behaviours of the Fuvahmulah area. They maintain a strict safety-first approach, providing detailed briefings before every dive to ensure everyone is prepared for the conditions.

Instruction is conducted in English, Spanish, and Italian. To maintain a high standard of safety and personal attention, the centre operates with a ratio of a maximum of 8 divers per guide. For those looking to advance their skills, the centre offers a full range of PADI training and specialised specialties.

Beyond the water, the centre provides integrated accommodation options. You can stay at the Extreme Dive Inn, a five-bedroom villa with private bathrooms, or work with their local partner hotels including Wanderlust and Millennium Island Residence. All packages include airport transfers and dive logistics.

The centre provides a complete curriculum of PADI courses, catering to everyone from those taking their first breath underwater to professional candidates. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving, the PADI Scuba Diver course, or the PADI Open Water Diver course.

For those looking to progress, the centre offers PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster training. They also provide specialised training such as the PADI Deep Diver Specialty and the PADI Nitrox course.

Adventure-seekers can enrol in the PADI Tiger Shark Diver Specialty, which is perfectly suited to the local environment. The centre also runs refresher courses and training for younger divers, including the PADI Bubble Maker and Junior Advanced Open Water Diver programmes.

The shore-based facilities are designed for serious divers, featuring a two-storey building with a dedicated compressor room and a large equipment room capable of accommodating more than twenty divers. A spacious wet area is provided for rinsing and organising your kit after a trip.

For those needing to rent equipment, the centre stocks a full range of kit including BCDs, wetsuits, regulators, and dive computers. Nitrox is available on-site and is provided at no extra charge for certified divers. The centre also maintains an oxygen kit and VHF radio for safety.

Training is supported by an on-site pool with a depth of 4.5 metres, which is ideal for confined space training and practising skills before heading out to the reef.

The area is world-renowned for its large pelagics. You can expect to see Tiger sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier) throughout the year, alongside silvertip sharks, whitetip sharks, Grey reef sharks, and oceanic whitetip sharks. During certain months, the chance of seeing even more specialised species increases, such as Hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna lewini) from September to December, Manta rays from March to May, and Whale sharks from January to May.

In the deeper waters and during drift dives, you are likely to encounter large predatory fish including giant trevally, Dogtooth tuna, bonitos, and Great barracuda. Mola Mola are also known to appear around July and August, while Humpback whales can be spotted between January and March.

The reef itself is a vibrant ecosystem. You will find a high density of colourful reef fish, including various species of Snapper (Lutjanus), Wrasse, Surgeonfish, and Parrotfish. Hawksbill turtles are a common sight amongst the coral formations, and you may also spot Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus) on the sandy patches.

Macro and smaller inhabitants include various species of scorpionfish, triggerfish, and rainbow runners. The hard coral (Scleractinia) structures provide a home for a multitude of reef fish, ensuring the biodiversity remains high across the various dive sites.

Diving in Fuvahmulah often involves drift dives, particularly at sites like Fari Kede where the current allows you to explore large sections of the reef in a single descent. Always be prepared for the movement of the water when planning your dive.

Visibility is generally excellent, reaching up to 40 metres in optimal conditions. The local team provides detailed briefings to ensure all divers are comfortable with the expected currents and depth profiles, which typically range from 5 to 30 metres.
