Scuba Butler Fuvahmulah

Fuvahmulah is a unique destination in the Maldives, an island that sits somewhat apart from the typical atoll structure. This positioning makes it a magnet for large pelagics, offering a diving experience that is fundamentally different from the calm, shallow reef flats found elsewhere in the archipelago.

Scuba Butler has been operating in this specific environment since 2013, originally established as Fuvahmulah Dive and Water Sports. The centre is built around the deep local knowledge of its founder, Mohamed Shammoon Ameen, who brings nearly three decades of experience to the operation.

The team is composed of both Maldivian and international professionals, ensuring a blend of local expertise and international diving standards. This mix is particularly valuable for navigating the specific currents and underwater topography of Fuvahmulah.

The centre is affiliated with both PADI and SSI, providing a broad range of training and certification options. Their approach focuses on personalised service and the use of well-maintained, high-quality kit to ensure safety and comfort during every excursion.

A full spectrum of training is available through PADI and SSI certifications. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver course, with pathways leading through to Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver.

For those looking to progress professionally, the centre offers Divemaster and Instructor Development Course (IDC) training. They also provide specialised training in Underwater Photography and Videography for divers looking to document their encounters with the local marine life.

The centre provides a full range of rental equipment for divers who prefer not to carry their own kit. This includes regulators, wetsuits, fins, and masks, all of which are meticulously maintained.

For those planning night dives or specific underwater photography sessions, essential accessories such as torches are also available for hire.

The primary draw of Fuvahmulah is the presence of large pelagics. You can expect regular encounters with Tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier), Hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini), and Thresher shark. Other significant species include silvertip sharks, Grey reef shark, reef whitetip sharks, and oceanic whitetip sharks, alongside lemon sharks and Bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas).

Beyond the sharks, the waters are home to Manta ray and various other pelagic species. You will also see a high density of reef fish, including Snapper (Lutjanus), and larger predators like giant trevally and rainbow runners.

The reef structure itself is built upon a foundation of Hard coral (Scleractinia), providing a complex habitat for a wide array of colourful reef fish and Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus).
