Fuvahmulah is a distinct destination in the Maldives, situated on the first island across the equator. Unlike the typical atolls, this island is known for its lush vegetation, freshwater lakes, and a unique marine environment that attracts an extraordinary array of pelagic species.

Scuba Expeditions operates from this location, providing access to some of the most reliable shark encounters in the region. The centre combines professional diving with an authentic Maldivian experience, allowing you to explore deep-water profiles and vibrant reef systems from a single base.

The team at Scuba Expeditions is comprised of PADI Instructors, Master Scuba Diver Trainers, and marine biologists. This scientific expertise supports their commitment to tiger shark conservation and responsible diving practices throughout your expeditions.

Safety is managed through rigorous protocols and equipment checks led by certified professionals. You will dive in small groups, with a maximum of three divers per guide, ensuring personalised attention and close monitoring of your buddy pair.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of PADI training, from the initial Open Water Diver course through to Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver. Professional pathways are also available for those looking to progress to Divemaster.

Beyond standard scuba certifications, the centre provides Molchanovs Freediving instruction. This allows you to develop your breath-hold capabilities under the guidance of certified freediving instructors.

The centre operates boats that accommodate groups of 3 to 6 divers. These trips are designed to reach the island's most significant sites, including the high-energy environments of Tiger Point.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes regulators, BCDs, and other essential diving components. For those looking to document their encounters, underwater camera hire is also provided.

The marine life here is dominated by large pelagics. You can expect to see Tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier), Thresher shark, Hammerhead shark (Sphyrna lewini), and oceanic whitetip sharks. Other frequent visitors include Bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas), lemon sharks, and silvertip sharks.

In the water column, you will encounter vast schools of fish, including rainbow runners, giant trevally, and Snapper (Lutjanus). Thresher Rays and other pelagic species are also part of the regular underwater scenery.

The reef ecosystem is supported by Hard coral (Scleractinia) and a variety of colorful reef fish. You may also spot Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus) and guitarfish sharks patrolling the seabed.

The marine environment around Fuvahmulah is characterised by extraordinary current dynamics, which are a primary driver for the abundance of pelagic species. These currents can be strong, particularly at sites like Tiger Point.

Seasonal conditions vary with the monsoons. The northeast monsoon, from November to April, typically brings the calmest sea conditions. During the southwest monsoon, from May to October, the seas can become rougher.
