DS Divers Malta

DS Divers Malta, formerly known as Buceo Malta, is a well-established dive centre situated in Qawra. The centre has built a strong reputation within the Mediterranean diving community, particularly as a primary hub for Spanish-speaking divers, though they are fully equipped to host English and French-speaking guests as well.

The centre provides access to some of the most iconic underwater features in the Maltese archipelago. From the deep, massive hulls of commercial wrecks to the geological wonders of Gozo, the local diving offers a diverse range of environments for every level of experience.

The centre is run by a dedicated team, including Diego Scuro and Génesis Jiménez, who maintain a highly personalised approach to diving. As a PADI affiliated centre, they provide a structured environment for both recreational exploration and professional development.

Instruction is available in English, Spanish, and French, making it easy to navigate technical briefings or course theory. The team is well-versed in guiding divers through various environments, from shallow reef flats to advanced wreck penetrations.

DS Divers Malta offers a comprehensive curriculum through PADI, ranging from the Discover Scuba Diving programme for beginners to the full Open Water Diver certification. They also provide advanced training including the Adventure Diver, Deep Diver, and Advanced Open Water Diver courses.

For those looking to specialise, the centre offers PADI Wreck Diver and Nitrox courses. Professional divers can undertake the full career path, including Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and the Instructor Development Course (IDC).

The centre operates using both boats and sailing vessels to reach the various dive sites. These trips cover the waters around Malta, Comino, and Gozo, including dedicated transfers to the Gozo channel. For those looking to explore the waters around Comino, boat transfers are also available.

The centre provides a full range of professional rental kit, including regulators, BCDs, and wetsuits. For night dives, they supply torches, and they also offer the hire of dive computers.

The wrecks and reefs are home to a variety of larger species. You can regularly observe Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), Tuna, and various types of Ray (Batoidea). Groupers (Epinephelus) and large Moray eel (Muraenidae) are often found patrolling the structures.

In the sandy areas and rocky crevices, you will find a wealth of smaller life. This includes Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), various species of Wrasse (Labridae), and Damselfish (Pomacentridae). Cuttlefish (Sepiidae) and different types of rockfish are also common sightings.

For those with a keen eye for macro life, the area offers plenty of interest. Look out for Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and various species of Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae).

The diving environment in Malta is generally characterised by calm waters and excellent visibility, which typically ranges between 15 and 40 metres. While the area is known for its stability, divers should always check local conditions before heading out.

For beginners, the period from June to October offers the most comfortable conditions. Experienced divers can find rewarding dives throughout the entire year, regardless of the season.
