Traditional Andalusian character meets the useful comforts of a modern hotel here. The rooms sit around a central patio, while the wider setting gives you a choice of sea views, a pool, a restaurant and easy road access rather than a resort bubble cut off from Spain.

You will be understood in English, Spanish, French and German by the hotel team. That matters when you are arranging an early start, asking about a meal, or trying to explain that the wet bag is not, in fact, a fashion accessory.

The hotel suits divers travelling by car, couples combining the coast with a few days of exploring, and families who want proper rooms, a pool and practical services under one roof. Its 2023 renovation keeps the setting traditional without asking you to give up air conditioning, Wi-Fi or room service.

You are in Algeciras, Spain, in a quiet residential area at the entrance to the city and beside the A7 motorway. The hotel has a seaside setting with views towards the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar, while Rinconcillo Beach is about 0.7 miles away on foot, or 0.8 miles by car. Getares Beach is 4.4 miles away by car, and Playa de Guadarranque is around 4.6 miles away.

Algeciras port is about 1.2 miles away and the city centre around 1.9 miles. That keeps ferries, urban services and local restaurants within reach without placing you in the middle of the traffic. Venta Peña is roughly 350 metres away on foot, with Ristorante Fiorenza and El Mirador also nearby if the hotel restaurant has already had its turn.

For time above water, Parque del Centenario is about 3.9 miles away on foot, while the archaeological site of Carteia is around 3.3 miles away by car. Tarifa, the Strait Natural Park and the city of Algeciras all feature among the excursions available through the hotel.

The room choice is straightforward rather than decorative. Couples can take a Double or Twin Room, with two single beds if you prefer separate sleeping space, while solo travellers have a dedicated single room. Triple rooms use three single beds, and the Family Room combines two singles with a double bed for a more workable arrangement when everyone needs to sleep in the same place.

The Family Room is the sensible pick when two adults want more room to spread out than a standard layout allows. For three adults, the Triple Room keeps the sleeping plan clear, though the room size means you should not expect ballroom conditions for three dive bags and a full holiday wardrobe. The smaller rooms make more sense for a couple travelling light or a single diver who values a private base over extra floor space.

Every room has air conditioning, a private bathroom with bath or shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. You also get a minibar, safe, wardrobe, desk, kettle, flat-screen television and free Wi-Fi. The central patio gives the hotel its character; the air conditioning gives you the better chance of sleeping properly when the day has involved salt, sun and several hours of concentrating on a pressure gauge.

The main restaurant, Restaurante Alborán, serves Mediterranean cooking for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is a buffet with vegetarian and gluten-free choices, beginning at 7.30am. Lunch runs from 1pm to 3pm, and dinner from 8pm to 11pm, so the evening service is usable after a day that has not followed a Swiss railway timetable.

The restaurant has an air-conditioned interior and a terrace, with a relaxed dress code. Half-board is available, while the on-site café and snack bar give you lighter options during the day. Room service runs from 11am to 11pm, although the menu is not an all-day diving buffet: baguettes and set menus are the practical choices when you want food without moving farther than the door.

There is one named bar, Bar Alborán, in the lobby. It concentrates on cocktails and wine, making it a reasonable place to sit with a drink while the rest of the group decides whether dinner is happening now or after one more story about the dive.

The outdoor swimming pool is the obvious place to spend a non-diving afternoon, with a sea view and room to cool off without committing to another full day in the water. Sun terraces, outdoor furniture and garden areas give you somewhere to sit when the body has voted firmly against further exertion. Pool opening depends on the weather and maintenance conditions each year.

The fitness centre is there for anyone who prefers a measured session to complete inactivity. For something more local, the hotel can arrange or support excursions around Algeciras, Tarifa and the Strait Natural Park, as well as cultural visits and wildlife observation. Hiking is available in the surrounding area, which gives a couple or small group a way to fill a surface interval without turning it into an expedition.

The seaside setting also opens the door to snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding and boat excursions, with equipment rental available. Families have access to babysitting and a children’s menu, while the pool and the surrounding beaches give younger travellers something to do between meals.

The hotel is easy to reach by road, sitting beside the A7 at the entrance to Algeciras. Private parking is available on site, and car hire can be arranged. The 24-hour reception, luggage storage, tour desk and concierge are useful if your arrival, ferry or departure does not fit neatly around a hotel timetable.

Check-in runs from 2pm to midnight, with photo identification and a payment card required. Check-out is from 7am to noon, which leaves room for an early departure if the next leg of the journey starts before breakfast has fully got going. Early check-in and late check-out can be requested. Guests must be at least 18 to check in independently.

Gibraltar International Airport is about 13 miles away by road. Málaga Airport is around 75 miles away. An airport transfer is available on request, and the hotel can also arrange car hire.
