Mas Ribas sits among the fields of the Alt Empordà, with the Montgrí massif to the south and the Pyrenees to the north. The mood is practical and unhurried, with a shared lounge, a communal kitchen and outdoor areas where the day can wind down without a timetable attached.

You can book a room with breakfast or take the whole house for a larger gathering, with room for up to 26 people. That makes the property particularly relevant when a dive trip involves more than two people and someone inevitably wants to bring a non-diving partner, children or a mountain of luggage. The website is available in English, French, Catalan and Spanish; the on-site team speaks Spanish.

Mas Ribas is in Armentera, Spain, in the Alt Empordà countryside. The sea is about 2 miles away, while the nearest beach area is reached by car rather than by simply wandering downstairs in flip-flops. Sant Pere Pescador is particularly suited to windsurfing and kitesurfing, and several other beaches lie along the coast.

The nearest practical restaurants are Bar Snack Can Serrat and Cafe Catalunya, each roughly half a mile away. La Sal is about 1 mile away. For a proper change of scene, L'Escala is around 6 miles away by car, and the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà natural park is about 7 miles away. Girona-Costa Brava Airport is around 30 miles away by road, with a drive of roughly 40 minutes.

The room choice is mainly about how much space and privacy your party needs. The triple rooms use either three single beds or a double bed with a single, while the larger studio with terrace gives four people more room to spread out. For a couple, that studio is the obvious choice when a terrace matters more than squeezing into a compact room; for three adults, three separate beds avoid the familiar holiday argument over who gets the sofa that does not exist.

Every room has a private bathroom with a shower, towels and a hairdryer, plus air conditioning, heating, a television, a wardrobe and a desk. A mosquito net is also provided. After a long day outdoors, the useful bits are the straightforward ones: cool air when the afternoon has been hot, a proper shower, and somewhere to sit with a book or sort out the next day's plans.

Some rooms look towards the garden or pool, while the mountain-view option gives you a different outlook. The property is non-smoking, and the house keeps quiet hours from midnight until 08:00. One accessible room, Gregal, is available for guests with reduced mobility.

Breakfast is a buffet served in the garden, with juice, cheese and fruit. It is included with the stay and runs from 08:30 to 10:30. That is a civilised start for a holiday, though not an especially early one if you are chasing a first boat departure. The point is a relaxed breakfast rather than a grab-and-go diving service.

There is no restaurant or bar service at the property. Instead, you can use the shared kitchen, and the Llevant room has its own private kitchen. Barbecue facilities, a picnic area and outdoor furniture give you other ways to handle dinner when the weather plays along. A freezer chest is available for the exclusive use of the house, and wine or champagne can be arranged as an additional extra.

For an evening meal away from the kitchen, Bar Snack Can Serrat and Cafe Catalunya are about half a mile away, with La Sal around 1 mile from the house. The nearest cafés and bars are in L'Escala, roughly 4 to 5 miles away. In other words, dinner out is possible, but this is a country base, not a promenade lined with restaurants.

The outdoor pool is the main recovery tool here: a fenced, year-round pool with a depth of 1.20 to 1.50 metres, an outdoor shower and sun loungers. It is open from 08:30 to 20:30. The garden and sun terrace give you somewhere to read, dry off or simply do very little, which is often the correct answer after a demanding day outside.

There is more than a pool for families and groups. A games room, table tennis, table football, board games and puzzles keep the indoor option alive, while the grounds include football, basketball and volleyball facilities. Children have indoor and outdoor play areas, and the property also has a vegetable garden and a chicken coop. It is a useful arrangement when some of your party want activity and others would prefer a chair in the shade.

Away from the house, the area lends itself to cycling and hiking, with horse riding, canoeing, windsurfing and kitesurfing also available locally. The wider programme can stretch to Cadaqués, the Salvador Dalí Museum in Figueres, the Dalí house-museum in Portlligat, Cap de Creus, the Bay of Roses, Empúries and the Aiguamolls del Empordà natural park. Snorkelling is available in the waters around Cadaqués.

Arrival is scheduled between 15:00 and 19:00, and departure between 09:00 and 11:30. You need to give the property your expected arrival time, and photo identification plus a credit card are required at check-in. The house accepts cash payments. There is no age restriction for check-in, and children of all ages are welcome; cots for children aged up to two years can be requested, while extra beds are not available.

Free private parking is available on site, with no reservation needed, and WiFi is free throughout the property. Luggage storage is available, as is a tour desk. There is no airport shuttle, so plan on arranging your own road transfer or hire car from Girona-Costa Brava Airport, about 30 miles away by car. Perpignan–Rivesaltes Airport is farther, at roughly 49 miles by road.

Smoking and parties are not allowed, pets are not allowed, and quiet hours run from midnight to 08:00. The complete house can also be rented for groups from roughly mid-September to June. For a diving party, that option is worth considering when the aim is to share a base rather than simply occupy adjoining rooms.

The property has an organic vegetable garden and keeps chickens, tying part of the stay to the land around the house rather than treating the countryside as scenery outside the window. Its approach is based on respect for the soil and the surrounding environment.

There is no separate certification attached to the property, but the garden and hens are tangible parts of its rural operation. They also give the setting a bit more substance than the usual decorative pot plant placed beside reception.
