Rallye Hotel

A family-run address on the seafront, Hotel Rallye suits divers who prefer a proper town around them rather than a sealed-off resort. You can step out towards the water, find a place for a drink or dinner, and still be back in your room without turning the evening into an expedition.

English and French are spoken by the hotel team, alongside Catalan and Spanish. That matters when you are discussing arrival times, room arrangements or what to do with a free afternoon. The atmosphere is centred on simple Mediterranean living: the sea, local traditions, walks and a table with something to drink on it.

The hotel works particularly well for couples, but family rooms with sea views give larger groups a practical option too. There is a tour desk for arranging activities, while room service, luggage storage and daily housekeeping keep the mechanics of a short diving break reasonably straightforward.

You are in L’Escala, Spain, directly on the seafront and about a two-minute walk from the town centre. Playa de El Codolar is roughly 50 metres away, while Port d’en Perris Beach is about a three-minute walk. Platja de les Barques takes around five minutes on foot, so you have several stretches of coast to choose from without reaching for car keys.

The immediate surroundings are useful rather than merely scenic. Origens is next door, Restaurant L’Avi Freu is about a minute away on foot, and Korpilombolo is roughly two minutes away. Cafés are also close by, including Cer L’Escala at about 200 metres.

For a change of scene, the Ruins of Empúries and L’Escala’s anchovy-salting factories are about a five-minute drive away. The coastal path towards Sant Martí d’Empúries starts in the wider area, and the Medes Islands Marine Reserve is roughly 5 miles away.

The room choice comes down less to decoration than to how you want to use the space. The Economy Double Room and Small Double Room keep things compact for two, while the Large Double Room uses twin beds if sharing a large bed is not your preferred post-dive arrangement. For a couple wanting a little more room, the Superior Queen Room has a king-size bed and is the more spacious option.

If the view matters, the Queen Room with Sea View faces the Gulf of Roses, while the Family Room with Sea View gives up to four guests two double beds. That makes it the sensible pick for a family or a group travelling together, rather than trying to make a small double room do heroic work with bags and wet-weather clothing.

Air conditioning helps take the edge off a hot, salty day, and heating is available for cooler periods. Every room has a private bathroom, balcony, wardrobe, flat-screen television and free WiFi; some balconies look across the Gulf of Roses. The hotel is in a building without a lift, and upper floors are reached by stairs, so pack with that in mind rather than discovering it while carrying everything upstairs.

Breakfast is continental and included in the stay. In low and mid-season, it is served in a ground-floor area with a first-row sea view; in high season, the setting moves to a panoramic terrace overlooking the water. The view changes with the calendar, but either way you can start the day with the coast in front of you rather than a conference-room wall.

There is a coffee house on site, a bar and a minibar in the rooms. Room service is also available, which is handy when the sensible evening plan is food, a shower and an early night rather than a second outing.

Dinner is not presented as part of a hotel restaurant operation, so the location does the useful bit instead. Origens is next door, with Restaurant L’Avi Freu and Korpilombolo close by, and more cafés and bars within walking distance. If you book half board, drinks are not included.

The easiest non-diving activity is the one requiring no timetable: walk down to the coast. With El Codolar around 50 metres away and several other beaches within a few minutes, you can choose between a short swim, a spell on the shore or a stroll before the town gets busy.

A sun terrace, terrace and outdoor furniture provide places to sit without leaving the hotel. For more movement, hiking is available away from the property, and the coastal route towards Sant Martí d’Empúries gives you a natural way to work off a long lunch. Snorkelling is also available off site.

The tour desk can help organise activities, including scuba diving, mountain biking and windsurfing. The area also gives you straightforward cultural options: the Ruins of Empúries and the local anchovy-salting factories are close enough for an outing, while museums and the Medes Islands area sit further along the coast.

Girona-Costa Brava Airport is about 31 miles away, with a typical drive of around 46 minutes. Perpignan–Rivesaltes Airport is further away at roughly 53 miles. The nearest listed rail stations, Sant Miquel de Fluvià and Camallera, are about 10 miles away by road, so an arrival plan based on a direct transfer or car is the practical one.

Check-in runs from 16:00 to 20:00 and check-out from 08:00 to 11:00. Reception is open from 09:00 to 20:00, except on Mondays when it closes at 13:00. You need to give the hotel your expected arrival time, and photo identification plus a credit card are required at check-in. Cash is accepted, while American Express is not.

There is no on-site parking. Free WiFi, luggage storage, concierge service, a tour desk and room service are available, and daily housekeeping is included. Children of any age are welcome, although children aged two and over are charged as adults; cots and extra beds are not available. Guests under 18 must check in with a parent or official guardian, and pets are not allowed.
