SKUALO Portocolom

Skualo Portocolom is situated in the coastal town of Portocolom on the island of Mallorca. The centre is positioned directly opposite the boats, requiring only a short walk across the street to reach the water. This convenient location makes it easy to transition from the shore to the dive boat for daily excursions.

The centre operates primarily from April to October, with availability for dives from November to March by request. It offers a variety of diving experiences, ranging from introductory dives for beginners to technical training and guided night dives.

As a PADI affiliated centre, Skualo Portocolom provides a structured environment for both recreational and professional training. The instructors are multilingual, capable of conducting courses and guided dives in German, Spanish, English, and French.

For those undertaking training, the centre maintains a ratio of one to two students per instructor. This ensures close supervision during the progression from entry-level courses through to professional certifications.

The centre offers a comprehensive catalogue of PADI courses for every stage of a diver's development. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses, while those looking to progress further can train for Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and Instructor levels.

Specialised training is also available, including Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Boat Diver, and Night Diver. For divers interested in specific skills or techniques, the centre provides courses in Navigation, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Sidemount, and Cavern diving, as well as the PADI Oxygen Provider certification.

The centre utilises a speedboot for its excursions, allowing for efficient travel to various dive sites around the coast. The boats are equipped with comfortable ladders to facilitate easy access for divers during entries and exits.

A full range of rental equipment is available on-site for divers who prefer not to carry their own kit. This includes 5mm wetsuits, fins, masks, snorkels, BCDs, regulators, and dive computers.

For those requiring gas blending, Nitrox is available. All dives include a 12L steel cylinder, weights, and the services of a certified guide.

The local reefs and rocky walls are home to a diverse range of fish, including Salema porgy (Sarpa salpa), sars, and various species of bream. You may also encounter dentex (Dentex dentex), common dentex, and amberjack (Seriola) patrolling the waters.

Larger pelagic species and predators include the Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), tuna (Thunnus), and groupers (Epinephelus). Divers often spot rays (Batoidea) and monkfish moving along the seabed.

In the crevices and near the reef structures, look for octopus (Octopus vulgaris), moray eels, and crabs. The environment is also rich with colourful fixed life, including red corals, yellow corals, sea anemones, and various tube worms.

The best time to dive in this area is between April and October. During the winter months from November to March, diving is available only by prior request.
