You have the sea beside you, an outdoor pool, a terrace, a restaurant and a café, with enough room to settle down rather than treat the hotel as somewhere to sleep between excursions.

The mood is easy-going and practical. Light, soundproofed rooms, air conditioning and a garden give you places to recover, while the beach, sun terrace and evening entertainment keep the day from ending the moment you leave the water. A bar and snack bar are also on hand when a full meal feels like overkill but a cold drink does not.

The hotel works particularly well for couples who want the sea close and the evening uncomplicated. Solo divers have the option of a single room, while anyone travelling by car can use the on-site parking and keep the logistics pleasantly dull — which, after a day carrying equipment, is not a criticism.

Hospedium Hotel Continental sits on Paseo del Mediterráneo in Mojácar, Almería, on Spain’s Andalusian coast. It is directly on the seafront, with La Rumina Beach around 50 metres away. El Descargador Beach is about 300 metres away, while Marina de la Torre is roughly 0.6 miles along the coast.

You are not marooned on a resort island. Garrucha fishing port is about 2 miles away, and the nearest golf course is around 0.6 miles from the hotel. Several restaurants sit almost on the doorstep, including El Sitio - Vinoteca, Restaurante Casa Egea and Restaurante Martín Morales, all within roughly 50 metres.

For a change of scenery beyond the promenade, Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park is about 6 miles away by the direct route. Plaza de Los Naranjos is around 9 miles away. Almería Airport is approximately 46 miles from the hotel by road, with a drive of about 51 minutes.

For two, the Double Room with Sea View is the obvious choice if the view matters more than squeezing every last benefit from the room category. The side-sea-view option gives you a similar coastal reference with either a double or twin arrangement, while the Superior Double Room is the one to consider when you want more space around the bed and a proper private bathroom.

Travelling alone? The Standard Single Room keeps things simple without asking you to pay for space you will not use. Couples who mainly need a comfortable base can choose the standard double room; those who expect to spend more time indoors will get more out of the superior category.

The useful, unglamorous details are all present for a diver’s recovery window: air conditioning for the hot, salt-heavy part of the year, heating for cooler nights, soundproofing, a wardrobe, clothes rack and minibar. Rooms have private bathrooms with a bath or shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. A desk, bedside socket, flat-screen television and WiFi throughout the hotel cover the practical business of charging, checking plans and switching off.

Breakfast is served as a buffet, with continental and full English or Irish choices alongside vegetarian and gluten-free options. One outdoor swimming pool gives you an alternative to the sea when you want a shorter, more controlled dip. The beachfront area includes sun loungers and parasols, and the sun terrace, garden and outdoor seating offer several ways to claim a chair and let the afternoon pass without a timetable.

Massage is available when your shoulders have had enough of carrying bags, tanks or simply the consequences of poor planning. The surrounding coast also gives you nearby beaches to explore, from La Rumina and El Descargador to Marina de la Torre.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to midnight, and check-out is due by 12:00. The front desk operates around the clock, but you need to give the hotel your expected arrival time. Photo identification and a credit card are required at check-in, and the minimum check-in age is 18. Cash is an accepted payment method.
