Thomas Reef, Sharm El Sheikh: Diving Tiran Strait's smallest jewel

Located definitively between the iconic Gordon and Woodhouse Reefs, Thomas Reef carves its singular profile within the Strait of Tiran. It's the most compact of the Tiran reefs, a feature that allows for the possibility of circumnavigating its entire structure within a single dive, provided that the prevailing currents are agreeable. This compact nature makes it a unique proposition for exploration, inviting divers to trace its full perimeter and experience its distinct ecological zones.

As you descend, the most striking features of Thomas Reef begin to emerge: deep, plunging walls that are utterly carpeted in soft corals. These delicate, rhythmic organisms create a vibrant tapestry of colour, swaying gently with every subtle surge. A highlight of diving Thomas Reef is undoubtedly the large gorgonian forest that flourishes at approximately 25 metres. These magnificent fan corals stretch outwards from the reef face, creating intricate patterns and providing shelter for a myriad of smaller reef inhabitants.
