It is built for couples who want their diving holiday to include proper downtime, and for families who would rather have room to spread out than negotiate every suitcase around a standard hotel room.

That tells you which international guests the resort is set up to reach, while the practical attractions are straightforward: air-conditioned rooms, private balconies or patios, free WiFi throughout the hotel, room service and a 24-hour front desk. In other words, once the mask has dried and the appetite has returned, you can keep the evening simple.

The address is West Bay, Honduras, on West Bay Beach in the Bay Islands. The beach is directly in front of the resort, with white sand, palm trees and calm waves. You are not staying inland and travelling to the coast; the coast is the setting, and the Caribbean is part of the daily walk between your room, the pool and the restaurant.

West End Beach is about 1.5 miles away, around a 30-minute walk or a short drive. Parque Gumbalimba is about 1 mile from the resort, while Carambola Gardens is roughly 4 miles away. A few nearby restaurants, including La Palapa Beach Bar, Nice n Spicy and Restaurante Naboo, give you alternatives close to the property. Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport is about 7 miles away by road, with a drive of roughly 20 minutes.

For two, a Premium King Room with Ocean View or the King Suite with Private Plunge Pool and Ocean View keeps the choice focused: a super-king bed, air conditioning and your own outdoor space, with the suite adding a private plunge pool. The ocean-view rooms make sense if you expect to spend the non-diving hours looking towards the water rather than at a television. A balcony or patio gives you somewhere to sit without turning the bed into a drying rack for every piece of holiday clothing.

Travelling with family or friends changes the calculation. The one-bedroom options provide a separate living arrangement, while the two- and three-bedroom condos give larger groups more room to divide themselves sensibly. The beachfront two-bedroom condo is the obvious pick when stepping straight towards the sand matters more than keeping everyone on the same floor of a conventional hotel building. There are also rooms with two queen beds for four guests, which can be the more practical answer when sharing matters more than a private lounge.

The Cliffside Garden Pool takes a different angle, with a garden setting, views over turquoise water and cooling breezes. Pool and beach towels are provided, and there is also a children’s pool.

Kao Kamasa Spa is the place for a more deliberate recovery day. Its programme combines Pesh cultural traditions with modern treatments, including massages, facials, steam-room and sauna sessions, jacuzzi use, mud treatments, body wraps, hair treatments, manicures and pedicures. The spa also has indoor soaking pools with chromotherapy, different salinities and temperature gradients, plus a cliffside garden pool. Some of the more specialist offerings include Temazcal Patokaa rituals, cacao ceremonies and obsidian-stone rituals.

If sitting still is not your preferred surface interval, the fitness centre runs around the clock for adult guests and looks out towards the ocean. You can choose from yoga, meditation, HIIT 30, Beach Body Pump, balance work, cycle and core, circuit training, Hatha Yoga and Somatic Yoga. Beyond the resort, the programme includes cooking classes, cultural excursions, Honduran coffee tasting, Guifity tasting, artisan cigar experiences, rum and chocolate tastings, jungle ATV trips, a canopy zipline and visits to Coxen Hole. Evenings bring social hours, sunset rituals, DJ sessions and beach cornhole.

Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport is about a 20-minute drive away. The hotel offers an airport shuttle arranged through the property, with inclusion in some packages, and a shuttle service can also be arranged locally. Private parking is free on site and does not require a reservation.
