Naboo Resort is a compact property with 18 rooms, a tropical garden, a pool and a terrace around which the day naturally gathers. You can come back from the water, take a seat near the jacuzzi and let the rest of the afternoon require very little from you. That is the right level of ambition for a dive hotel.

The resort suits couples particularly well, while the two-bed room option also works for adult companions travelling together. A restaurant, bar, Wi-Fi throughout the property and daily housekeeping keep the essentials close at hand.

You are in West Bay, Honduras, on Roatán's Bay Islands, at the centre of the West Bay area. West Bay Beach is roughly 150 metres away, with white sand and direct beach access. In practical terms, you can move between room, beach and resort without turning the day into a transport exercise.

The setting combines the shoreline with tropical gardens and the island's Caribbean surroundings. West End Beach is about 1.5 miles away on foot, or roughly 2 miles by road, while Parque Gumbalimba is about 1 mile away. Carambola Gardens sits about 3.8 miles from the resort.

You also have places to eat close by, including Nice n Spicy and Celestes Island Cuisine, both within a few hundred feet. Port of Roatán is about 20 minutes away by taxi, and Mahogany Bay port about 40 minutes. The room choice is straightforward rather than theatrical. Couples can take the Deluxe King Room for its extra-large double bed, while the room with two queen beds is the sensible arrangement for adult friends who would rather not negotiate bed space after a day's diving. The king room can also accommodate a third guest with its additional single bed.

Every room has a furnished balcony looking over the pool, so you get an outdoor seat without having to claim one beside the water at dawn. Inside, air conditioning and a ceiling fan help you recover from warm, salty hours outdoors, while soundproofing and soundproof rooms are useful when sleep matters more than conversation.

A minibar, refrigerator, safe, mosquito net, towels, hairdryer and a smart flat-screen television cover the less glamorous but genuinely useful parts of a dive day. Naboo Dive Center, the hotel's own dive centre, affiliated with PADI, used to English-speaking guests. The integrated dive centre changes the rhythm of the stay: breakfast, a short walk, and you are ready for the boat rather than waiting for a transfer. Two boats are available, with space for up to 12 divers plus two divemasters and a captain; the boats are shaded.

The usual ratio is six divers per divemaster, with nitrox and night diving available. Three boat departures run through the day: a morning two-tank outing and a single afternoon dive, with night dives arranged for a minimum of four divers.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 20:30 and check-out from 07:00 to 11:00. Tell the resort your expected arrival time, and have photo identification and a credit card ready at check-in. The minimum check-in age is 18, matching the adults-only policy.
