You are in Railay Beach, Thailand, directly on Railay West Beach and beside golden sand. Phra Nang Beach is about 300 metres away on foot, while Railay East Beach is roughly 450 metres away. Tonsai Beach is about 1 kilometre away, close enough for a walk when your legs still have one outing left in them.

The location is reached by boat rather than road. The resort is around a 15-minute boat ride from Ao Nang Beach and about 45 minutes from Krabi Town. Phuket International Airport is approximately 55 miles away. In other words, the transfer is part of the arrival: arrange the boat connection through Nam Mao Pier or Ao Nang Beach, rather than expecting to be dropped at a reception entrance by car.

You have a few nearby places to eat and drink, including Jen Bar and One Stop Takeaway Shop at roughly 50 metres, plus Sunrise Tropical Restaurant at about 350 metres. The area also gives you access to excursions towards Emerald Pool, Tiger Cave Temple, Phi Phi Island, Poda Island, Chicken Island and Lanta Island.

The rooms are arranged as bungalows, villas and suites, each with its own private balcony. That matters here: after saltwater, sun and the general business of getting dry, you have somewhere to sit without having to join the pool crowd. There is no hotel bar, and the resort does not serve alcohol. Guests bringing their own may request glasses. A special sunset dinner can be arranged at the beachfront restaurant, and special-diet menus are available on request. The useful takeaway is plain enough: this is a Thai beachfront restaurant rather than a bar-led resort, with seafood doing more of the talking than cocktails.

The outdoor pool gives you an alternative to the sea when you want a swim without sand in every pocket. Sun loungers, beach chairs, pool and beach towels, a garden and a sun terrace cover the less ambitious part of the afternoon. After several days of early starts, that may be the most sophisticated activity on offer: finding a chair and staying there.

For a little more movement, there is a fitness centre, along with on-site facilities for water sports, kayaking and snorkelling. Fishing trips and sightseeing arrangements can be organised through the tour desk, while local-culture tours and excursions broaden the options when you want to see something beyond the beach. Karaoke is also available for evenings when quiet conversation has run its course.
