Phuket International Airport is about 27 miles away, with the journey taking around 1.5 hours by car. The surrounding area combines a hillside position, tropical vegetation and sea views with the practical convenience of a well-established beach town.

The villa gives you four bedrooms and four private bathrooms, with three king-size beds and a large twin room. That makes the sleeping arrangements useful for mixed groups: couples can keep their own rooms, while friends travelling together do not have to draw straws for the sofa. The bedrooms have dark wooden floors, wardrobes, towels, slippers and sliding glass doors.

Air conditioning is available in all four bedrooms, and three bedrooms have televisions. The open-plan living room is deliberately different: high ceilings, sliding windows and three ceiling fans create an airy shared space, but there is no air conditioning there and no television. In practical terms, the bedrooms are where you cool down properly; the living room is where you sit with a breeze, a drink and the day’s dive stories.

The kitchen is set up for real use, with a fridge, dishwasher, microwave, hob, toaster, cookware and dining table. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer, which are considerably more useful than another decorative cushion when you have wet swimwear to deal with. There is no hotel restaurant or bar to structure your evening, so the villa works on a more independent basis. The kitchen lets you prepare breakfast, make tea or coffee and organise a meal around your own timetable, which is handy when boat schedules and appetites refuse to cooperate. The private swimming pool is the obvious answer when the day has left you warm, salty and not especially interested in organised entertainment. The villa also has a 12-metre infinity pool, sea views, a garden, terrace and sun loungers, giving you several ways to occupy the afternoon without putting on proper clothes. There is also access to the shared Katamanda Estate pool.

For a gentler recovery, an in-villa massage can be arranged through the concierge, while sessions at external spas can also be organised. The estate has a fitness centre and a tennis court, and the villa’s large open living area works well for simply sitting down before dinner. That last activity remains underrated.

When you want to leave the estate, concierge support can arrange guided tours, sightseeing, cycling tours, ATV excursions, elephant trekking and visits to Phuket Old Town. Kata Beach offers surfing during the May to October season, and yacht charters are available for exploring the Andaman Sea. Families also have access to a dedicated children’s pool, while the villa’s layout gives larger groups room to share the holiday without sharing every minute.

Check-in starts from 15:00 and check-out is by 12:00. You need to tell the property your arrival time in advance, and private check-in and check-out are available. An airport shuttle can be arranged, while car hire, scooter hire and taxi travel give you more freedom once you are in Kata.
