A straightforward island resort for divers, beach people and couples who would rather spend their time outdoors than admiring a hotel lobby. Lanta Fevrier Resort keeps the useful things close: an outdoor pool, a restaurant, WiFi throughout the property and Klong Nin Beach just across the road.

The mood is practical rather than polished-for-show. You can swim, eat on site, arrange island outings and settle back into air-conditioned surroundings with a television and private shower room. For a small resort on Ko Lanta, that is a sensible combination: enough around you to make the day easy, without turning the place into a self-contained holiday machine.

You are in Ko Lanta, Thailand, in the Klong Nin area and beside the main island road. Klong Nin Beach is directly across the street, so reaching the sand means crossing the road rather than walking through a resort garden or taking a shuttle. That distinction matters when you are carrying beach gear and have already had enough exercise for one day.

The surrounding area gives you a few easy alternatives. Harrys Sunset Beach Bar is about 100 metres away, while Galapagos Cozy Cafe and Bistro is around 200 metres away and Richey Bar & Restaurant about 250 metres away. Nui Beach is roughly 1.7 miles away, Klong Toab Beach about 1.5 miles, and Mu Ko Lanta National Park around 7 miles from the resort.

Krabi International Airport is about 47 miles away. The resort sits on the coast, with the island's beaches, nature and local excursions providing the setting rather than a large town centre.

The room choice is mainly about how you want to sleep, not about chasing a grand category name. Couples can take a double room, while two friends travelling together can avoid the traditional holiday argument with a twin. Pool-view options give you something to look at when you are not looking at the sea, and the family rooms arrange one double bed with two single beds for groups of up to four.

There is also a garden-view bungalow, but it is notably more compact than the rooms. Choose it for a simple base rather than for spreading out dive bags, clothes and the contents of a wet day. The family rooms are the more useful choice when four people need to fit under one roof, while the double and twin rooms suit shorter, simpler stays for one or two guests.

Every room has air conditioning, a television and a private bathroom with a shower. That gives you the basics for cooling down, rinsing off and switching off after the day's heat. Daily housekeeping is included, and non-smoking rooms are available.

There is one restaurant on site, serving a diverse selection of dishes in a comfortable setting. The details stop there, so this is best treated as a useful in-house place to eat rather than a full dining programme built around early breakfasts, late dinners or specialist menus.

The surrounding road gives you alternatives when you fancy a change. Galapagos Cozy Cafe and Bistro is about 200 metres away, Richey Bar & Restaurant around 250 metres, and Harrys Sunset Beach Bar roughly 100 metres from the resort. MR.Love Bar is about 350 metres away. In other words, you can keep dinner simple without being trapped into eating in the same room every night.

A small supply of fruit is available on site. No meal plan or breakfast arrangement is specified, so check what is included with your chosen stay before assuming the first meal of the day will be waiting downstairs.

The large outdoor pool is the obvious recovery station when the beach is across the road but your legs are not volunteering. Sun loungers and pool or beach towels are available, and there is a separate children's pool for younger swimmers. The garden, terrace and outdoor furniture give you somewhere to sit without having to remain poolside all afternoon.

Massage is available in several forms, including full-body, couples, foot, back, neck, head and hand massage. An open-air bath adds another way to slow the pace down. There is no need to turn every non-diving day into an excursion; a pool, a massage and a horizontal position can be a perfectly respectable itinerary.

When you do want to move, bicycle hire and car hire are available through the resort. Boat outings to the Ko Rok Islands and visits to the Emerald Cave on Koh Mook are also part of the surrounding excursion menu.

Airport transfers can be arranged with the resort, making the journey from Krabi International Airport more manageable. Car hire, public transport tickets and a shuttle service are also available, while free on-site public parking is possible when reserved.
