Flipper diving club

Located in Duong Dong, Flipper Diving Club has been a fixture of the Phu Quoc diving community since 2009. As a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Resort, it provides a structured and professional environment for both recreational divers and those pursuing a career in instruction.

The centre operates excursions to two distinct areas of the island. You can choose between the more sheltered reefs of the north or the more varied, exposed sites of the south, depending on the conditions and your experience level.

The team is composed of certified professionals experienced in a wide range of diving disciplines. As an Instructor Development Centre (IDC), the staff includes instructors capable of training the next generation of PADI professionals.

Communication is straightforward for international divers, as the team is multilingual. They provide instruction and guidance in English, French, Dutch, German, Spanish, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, and Vietnamese.

The training programme is extensive, catering to every stage of a diver's progression. You can begin with Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver courses, move into Advanced Open Water, or work towards your Rescue Diver certification.

For those looking to turn diving into a profession, the centre is an IDC facility, offering the full range of courses required to become a PADI instructor.

The centre provides international diving insurance for all clients. For those looking to train in a controlled environment, they offer Discover Scuba Diving sessions that include pool training.

The reefs around Phu Quoc are home to a variety of colourful reef fish, including Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), Butterflyfish (Chaetodon), and Parrotfish (Calotomus). You will often see schools of sergeant majors, chromis, and Wrasse (Labridae) moving through the water.

Larger pelagics and common residents include Barracuda (Sphyraena), Grouper (Epinephelinae), and various species of turtle (Cheloniidae). If you are exploring the reef, keep an eye out for sea anemone fish and the occasional Grey reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos).

For those interested in macro life, the area hosts several interesting species. You can find Octopus (Octopoda), including the coconut octopus, as well as Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) and Mantis shrimp (Stomatopoda). Spiny lobster (Palinuridae) can also be spotted among the reef structures.

Conditions vary significantly between the two main diving areas. The north is characterised by low currents and more sheltered waters, while the south is more exposed to the elements.

In the south, conditions can change without warning due to the increased exposure of the reefs. Divers should be prepared for variable currents when heading to these more southern sites.
