Octopus Diving Center

Octopus Diving Center is located in Praia da Vitória, situated right next to the largest sandy beach on Terceira Island. Since its founding in 2008, the centre has established itself as the most experienced diving operation on the island, providing a base for both recreational training and specialised excursions.

The centre offers a variety of experiences, from basic introductory dives to more advanced adventures like swimming with dolphins or exploring the unique underwater volcanic landscape of Banco D. João de Castro. Whether you are looking to start your training or are an experienced diver seeking the Azores' volcanic topography, the centre provides a structured and professional environment.

The team is composed of local experts, including a Dive Master and guides with deep knowledge of the Terceira waters. They operate with a focus on small group sizes, maintaining a ratio of no more than four divers per guide to ensure personalised attention and safety.

Communication is straightforward for international divers, as the team is multilingual, speaking English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French. The centre holds a valid MT 18/2009 licence, reflecting its long-standing presence and professional standing in the local diving community.

As an SSI affiliated centre, Octopus Diving Center offers a full spectrum of international certifications. Beginners can start with the Basic Diver Program, which includes both pool and ocean sessions, or progress through the Open Water Diver course.

More advanced divers can undertake the Advanced Open Water Diver course or specialise with the Enriched Air Nitrox course. For those needing to refresh their skills before heading into the Atlantic, the Scuba Skills Update is also available.

The centre provides a complete range of equipment for hire, ensuring you have the necessary kit for your dives in the Azores. For those looking to extend their bottom time or manage nitrogen loading, Nitrox is available on-site.

For exploration dives, the use of a dive computer is mandatory. The centre is well-equipped to handle the logistical needs of both local divers and those visiting the island for specific expeditions.

The waters around Terceira are home to significant pelagic life. You may encounter Tuna (Thunnus), Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda), and various large pelagics, including Mackerel and Jack (Carangidae) moving through the water column.

On the reef and around the volcanic structures, you will find a variety of larger species such as Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), various Rays (Batoidea), and Moray eel (Muraenidae). Schools of small fish, Damselfish (Pomacentridae), and Triggerfish (Balistidae) provide constant movement along the seabed.

Macro life and smaller residents are abundant, including the Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), lobster, and various species of Wrasse (Labridae). For those with a keen eye, you might spot Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), shrimp aggregations, or different types of anemones clinging to the rocks.
