DIVEIndia Havelock

Established in 2003, DIVEIndia has grown into the largest diving school in India. Operating primarily out of Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil Island (Shahid Dweep), the centre provides a gateway to the diverse marine ecosystems of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Their presence extends to mainland training centres in Bangalore and Mumbai, though the heart of their operation remains the islands.

As an SSI Diamond Instructor Training Center, the facility is designed for serious progression. Whether you are starting with your first breaths underwater or pursuing professional instructor qualifications, the infrastructure is built to support high-level training. The centre is uniquely positioned as a multi-agency facility, offering instructor training through both SSI and NAUI.

The team at DIVEIndia brings a massive depth of experience to the water, with over 75 years of cumulative expertise among their staff. They have successfully trained more than 200 dive professionals and certified over 18,000 students. This level of experience is central to their mission of making the Andamans a regional hub for high-standard dive training.

Instruction is conducted in English, and the centre places a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, particularly regarding briefing quality and communication. They are deeply committed to the local community, focusing on the development and training of local dive guides to ensure the long-term sustainability of the local industry.

The course catalogue is among the most comprehensive in the region, covering every stage of a diver's journey. Beginners can start with Introduction to Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, or Open Water Diver courses. For those looking to advance, they offer Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diving, Navigation, and Perfect Buoyancy specialties.

Technical and professional training is a core strength. The centre provides training in Enriched Air Nitrox, Wreck Diving, Sidemount Diving, and CCR (Closed Circuit Rebreather) diving. They also offer the Extended Range (XR) pathway, including Extended Range Foundations and Extended Range Sidemount. Professional divers can undertake the Divemaster and Instructor Training Courses (ITC) under the guidance of full-time course directors.

Beyond standard scuba, DIVEIndia also offers Freediving programmes, ranging from Basic Freediver to Advanced Freediver levels. Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to explore, from ornate ghost pipefish and robust ghost pipefish to various species of scorpionfish and stonefish. The area is also known for its diverse nudibranchs, seahorses, flying gurnards, and various crustaceans like lobsters and crabs.

During the months of December to March, octopus sightings become more frequent. The reef ecosystem is further enriched by a variety of corals, sponges, and anemones that provide a home for smaller inhabitants like commensal shrimp and various molluscs.

Diving conditions vary significantly depending on the specific site. Some locations, such as Jackson’s Bar and Peel Lighthouse, are subject to strong currents, particularly during the tide changes associated with the new and full moons.

Other sites, like Nemo Reef, offer much calmer, shallower environments suitable for training and relaxed exploration. Divers should always check the specific site profile for current and topography before heading out.
