You can walk to the sea, sit down for dinner, or spend an afternoon following the old streets without having to organise a major expedition every time you leave the hotel.

The atmosphere is bright and straightforward, with interiors designed to feel fresh and welcoming. You have a shared lounge and TV area for the occasional spell indoors, plus a terrace for taking the edge off the day. It suits couples who want the village on the doorstep, and families who would rather have a proper town around them than be marooned in a resort compound.

You are in Cadaqués, Spain, in the heart of the bay and close to the town centre. The beach is only a few metres away, while Platja Gran is about 0.1 miles from the hotel and Platja Port d'Alguer about 0.2 miles away. Platja Es Poal is roughly 0.3 miles off, and Platja es Llaner Gran is about 0.4 miles away. In other words, you can choose your patch of shoreline rather than committing to the first beach you see.

The Cap de Creus Natural Park surrounds the area, giving the location a distinctly Mediterranean setting and putting walking and cycling routes within reach. Salvador Dalí's House is about 0.7 miles away on foot. For food and drink, Compartir and Es Grec are within about 0.1 miles, while Ca Pepa, Bar Marina, Es Cantó and Shaiows are also close enough for tired legs and an unambitious evening.

The choice is refreshingly easy to understand. For two people, the Double Room has two single beds, so couples who prefer a shared mattress should check the arrangement before booking rather than discovering it when the luggage is already on the floor. For three guests, the Triple Room uses three single beds and gives you the extra room needed to avoid turning every evening into a careful exercise in moving bags around.

Many rooms look towards the sea or the village, while others have mountain views. The outlook therefore depends on the room you choose, but the setting gives you something worth looking out for either way. Air conditioning and heating cover the practical side of the night, while a wardrobe, desk, bedside socket and flat-screen TV keep the room usable rather than merely photogenic.

Each room has a private bathroom with a bath, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. Daily housekeeping keeps the routine simple, and WiFi is available throughout the hotel. Family rooms are available, children of any age are welcome, and a cot can be requested for children aged up to two; there are no extra beds.

The Cap de Creus landscape is the main extra activity, and it does not require a timetable. You can walk the trails around the natural park, take a cycling route, or spend the afternoon exploring the historic centre of Cadaqués. The Salvador Dalí House-Museum in Portlligat gives the culture-minded member of the group something to do while the diver is discussing the morning's visibility for the fourth time.

The sea also remains part of the plan beyond diving. Kayaking, snorkelling and windsurfing are available activities in the area, with water sports described as a way to explore the Mediterranean. For a quieter return to the hotel, the shared lounge and TV area offer somewhere to sit without having to continue the conversation at full volume.

There is also a terrace, which is exactly the sort of feature that earns its keep when you want fresh air but not another walk. The lift, air conditioning and facilities for disabled guests add useful day-to-day practicality, while the non-smoking policy keeps the shared spaces straightforward.

Girona-Costa Brava Airport is about 36 miles away, with a road journey of roughly 1 hour 5 minutes. Perpignan–Rivesaltes Airport is also about 36 miles away, with a journey of roughly 1 hour 7 minutes. A private car is therefore a sensible part of the arrival plan, particularly if you are carrying dive luggage and do not want to negotiate several changes of transport.

Private parking is available at a nearby location, and it cannot be reserved. The hotel also has a 24-hour front desk, concierge service, tour desk, luggage storage and a wake-up service. Those are useful details when your arrival does not quite follow the ideal timetable, or when you want to leave bags before a walk around the bay.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 21:30 and requires photo identification and a credit card. Check-out is from 08:00 to 12:00. Cash is accepted, children of every age can stay, and pets are not allowed.
