Buceo La Herradura

Located in the Marina del Este between Almuñécar and La Herradura, Buceo La Herradura serves as a primary hub for diving on the Costa Tropical. The centre's position within the marina means you are situated just meters from the pontoons where the dive boats are moored.

With more than two decades of experience, the centre has established itself as a reliable point for both recreational and technical divers. All open-water training sessions are conducted from the boat, ensuring a professional approach to every session from the moment you leave the quay.

The centre is a PADI affiliated facility with a focus on safety and thorough preparation. They operate with a strict ratio of one guide per diver, ensuring close supervision and personalised attention during every descent.

Instruction is provided in Spanish. The team manages a wide range of training, from initial certifications to advanced technical modules, maintaining a professional standard across all levels of expertise.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering the full spectrum of PADI certifications. Beginners can start with Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver courses, while those looking to progress can undertake Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster training.

For more specialised skills, the centre offers several specialties, including Deep Diver, Night Diver, Underwater Navigation, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. They also provide Dry Suit and Nitrox training.

Technical divers will find a range of 'Essentials' courses, including Rec, Tech, Sidemount, and Overhead environments, as well as a Mini Doubles Specialty. The centre also offers Emergency First Response training.

The centre operates two boats, allowing for efficient scheduling and multiple departures throughout the day. These vessels facilitate all open-water training and exploration dives, including night dives.

Nitrox is available on board, allowing divers to extend their bottom times or manage nitrogen loading more effectively during multi-dive days.

A full range of rental kit is available on-site, including regulators, BCDs, and exposure suits. For those needing specific items, the centre maintains a comprehensive inventory to suit different diving styles.

Beyond rental gear, the centre features a dedicated workshop and technical service department. This facility is equipped to handle the maintenance and repair of essential kit, including regulators, BCDs, dive computers, and wetsuits.

The marine life around La Herradura is diverse, with many species inhabiting the rocky reefs and sandy patches. You will frequently encounter large schools of sea bream, bogues, and sardines, as well as various species of wrasse (Labridae) and damselfish (Pomacentridae).

Macro life is a highlight for many divers. Keep a sharp eye out for octopus (Octopus vulgaris), cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various nudibranchs. The rocky crevices often hide scorpionfish, stonefish (Synanceia), and stargazers, while you might spot a seahorse (Hippocampus kuda) or a long-snouted seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus) amongst the vegetation.

Larger inhabitants include various groupers (Epinephelus), including dusky grouper, and moray eels (Muraenidae). You may also see rays (Batoidea), electric rays, or even the occasional ocean sunfish (Mola mola) passing through the area. Spiny lobster (Palinuridae) and lobster (Homaridae) are also present within the reef structures.

The seabed is decorated with a variety of fixed life, including large anemones (Actiniaria), sea fans (Gorgoniidae), and various sponges (Porifera). You will find colourful displays of soft corals, yellow coral, orange star coral, and flower corals providing habitat for crabs (Brachyura) and other small crustaceans like squat lobsters.

The area is accessible for diving throughout the year. The centre operates multiple dive slots, including morning and afternoon sessions, to accommodate different schedules.

Night diving is a standard part of the centre's programme, allowing you to experience the local reefs after sunset.
