Extra Divers Lahami Bay

Situated in Hamata, Extra Divers Lahami Bay operates as the most southern dive centre in Egypt. Located directly within the Lahami Bay Beach Resort, the centre provides a convenient base for divers looking to explore the less crowded reefs of the southern Red Sea.

The centre is split between a main office near the resort reception and a dedicated building on the beach for house reef activities. This setup allows for seamless transitions between your accommodation and the water, with a private jetty providing easy access to the reef.

The centre is led by Nicole and staffed by an experienced, multilingual team. Instruction and guidance are available in English, German, Arabic, and Italian, with Spanish available upon request.

As an SSI affiliated centre, they provide a structured training environment for all levels. They also offer PADI courses upon request, ensuring divers can follow their preferred certification path. For younger divers, specific programmes are available for children aged 8 and over.

Training is primarily conducted under the SSI framework, covering the full spectrum from Open Water Diver through to various Specialty courses. The centre is well-equipped to handle beginners through to more advanced divers looking to refine their skills.

In addition to SSI, PADI certifications can be arranged upon request. The team also manages dedicated programmes for children starting from age 8, ensuring the next generation of divers gets a solid foundation.

The centre utilises a variety of vessels to reach different dive sites, including Zodiacs, speedboats, and day boats. These are used to access the diverse reefs around Hamata and Berenice, many of which were previously only reachable via liveaboard safaris.

Day trips typically consist of two dives, though three-dive trips can be arranged on request. For those looking for different light conditions, sunset dives are also possible. Safety is prioritised on all vessels, with oxygen systems and first aid kits carried on board.

The centre maintains a large inventory of modern Mares equipment for hire, including full sets. Divers can also rent specific items such as masks, snorkels, fins, and underwater cameras.

For those bringing their own kit, there are large rinsing tanks and secure lockers available on site. The centre provides 12 and 15-litre aluminium cylinders, with both DIN and INT valve options. Nitrox is available for certified divers without any additional charge.

The local reefs are home to a variety of large marine life, including regular sightings of turtles (Cheloniidae), rays (Batoidea), and dolphins (Delphinidae). You can often spot eagle rays (Aetobatus) patrolling the water column or various species of shark (Selachimorpha).

In the coral gardens, look for colourful reef fish such as angelfish (Pomacanthidae), butterflyfish (Chaetodon), and parrotfish (Calotomus). You will also encounter groupers (Epinephelus), snappers, and sweetlips (Plectorhinchus) amongst the reef structure.

The macro life and smaller inhabitants include various nudibranchs, moray eels, and sea anemone fish. Keep an eye on the sandy patches and crevices for triggerfish (Balistidae), lionfish (Pterois volitans), and yellowfin goatfish.

The area is characterised by a diverse marine landscape, including mangroves, desert scenery, and coral gardens. The proximity to the Wadi el Gemal National Park adds a unique geographical dimension to the diving experience.

While the reefs are spectacular, divers should be prepared for the varying environments found between the shallow reef flats and the deeper walls and wrecks accessible via speedboat.
