Orca Dive Club Wadi Lahmy Azur

ORCA Dive Club Wadi Lahmy Azur serves as the southernmost outpost for the established ORCA organization. Situated in Hamata, the centre provides access to the more remote and less crowded reaches of the Egyptian Red Sea, far from the busier hubs of the north.

The centre was designed by ORCA itself, incorporating a quarter-century of logistical experience to ensure a reliable operation. It is integrated directly into the Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort, offering a streamlined transition from your accommodation to the dive boat.

The centre is part of a long-standing diving organisation that has been operating in the Red Sea since the early 1990s. This history brings a level of established procedure and reliability to the Hamata base.

Instruction is available for a wide spectrum of divers, ranging from those taking their first breaths underwater to technical divers. The team is equipped to handle various certification requirements, ensuring that both recreational and advanced training needs are met on-site.

The training programme covers the full progression of recreational diving, including Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses.

For those looking to move beyond standard recreational limits, the centre offers Tec Diving and Rebreather Academy training. This allows divers to progress into more complex, technical environments using advanced gas blends and equipment.

The shore-based facilities are built around reliability, featuring two Bauer compressors that service a fleet of 250 steel cylinders. This setup ensures a consistent supply of air for daily operations.

A dedicated Nitrox unit is available on-site, allowing divers to utilise enriched air blends for their dives. For those not travelling with their own gear, the centre maintains a complete inventory of rental kit, including specific sizing for children.

The reefs around Hamata host a diverse array of Red Sea residents. You will frequently encounter various reef fish, including snapper, butterflyfish, and angelfish (Pomacanthidae). Larger species such as grouper (Epinephelus) and sweetlips (Plectorhinchus) are often found patrolling the reef structures.

Pelagic life is a significant draw for the area. Divers may encounter white-tip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), eagle rays (Aetobatus), and various other sharks (Selachimorpha). Dolphins (Delphinidae) and long-beaked dolphins are also known to visit these waters.

On the reef flats and sandy patches, you can find sea turtles (Cheloniidae), rays (Batoidea), and unicornfish. The biodiversity is rounded out by triggerfish (Balistidae), parrotfish (Calotomus), and yellowfin goatfish.

For those interested in smaller life, the macro environment offers nudibranchs (Chromodoris willani) and various sea anemone fish. The complex coral structures also provide homes for moray eels and lionfish (Pterois volitans).
