The atmosphere is relaxed, practical and deliberately casual, with the sea, the beach and a strong watersports programme shaping the day. You can start with coffee on the terrace, wander towards the water, then settle into a rooftop drink when the sun drops. No need to pack a dinner jacket; the evening dress code is casual.

The lodge has 173 rooms, renovated in 2023 in a modern boho style, and more than 60% of guests return. That tells you something about the place: it is aimed at people who like knowing where the coffee is, where to find the beach bar and how quickly they can get back into the water. Couples fit particularly well here, but family-friendly and accessible rooms are also available. English and German are spoken by the hotel team, so you will be understood from the start.

You are in Soma Bay, Hurghada, Egypt, on a peninsula between the Red Sea and desert mountains. The hotel stands directly beside the sea, with its own sandy beach reached without a road crossing or a transfer. Sun loungers, parasols and beach towels are available, so the route from your room to a patch of shade is refreshingly uncomplicated.

The surroundings are purpose-built for a waterside break rather than a town-centre wander. Hurghada International Airport is about 24 miles away, with a driving time of roughly 36 minutes. A café and bar at Sharm El Naga are about 5 miles away, while further restaurants and cafés sit several miles beyond that. The practical conclusion is simple: you have the hotel’s own restaurants and bars close at hand, while outside dining takes planning and a vehicle.

Each room has a private balcony, air conditioning, a minibar, free Wi-Fi, satellite television and a private bathroom. The balcony gives you somewhere to sit with a drink or let the day’s heat fall away, while the air conditioning matters when the Red Sea has done its usual thorough work on you. Bright decoration and tiled or marble floors keep the rooms straightforward rather than fussy.

For two people, the standard double or twin room keeps things simple, with a king-size bed in the double arrangement and the usual balcony for a breath of air. If waking up to the water matters more than anything else, choose the sea-view version. More than three quarters of the rooms have sea views, and the special XL Lifestyle Rooms add extra space plus a freestanding bath positioned for sunrise or sunset views. That is the one for a slower, more indulgent evening rather than a quick rinse and an early night.

The room set-up also works for a longer stay: wardrobe space, a minibar, a hairdryer and daily housekeeping cover the unglamorous details. Families should note that children of any age are welcome, but extra beds are not available; a baby cot can be arranged for very young children. The family-friendly and accessible room options are worth considering before you book if either point affects your choice.

Half-board covers breakfast and dinner, with both served at the waterside Dolphin restaurant. Breakfast is a buffet with continental, vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free choices, alongside made-to-order omelettes, fresh fruit, pancakes, coffee and gluten-free cornbread. It is the sort of spread that lets you make a proper start without having to improvise around dietary requirements.

Dinner brings a different theme each day, moving through Nubian and Arabic cooking, seafood, and land-and-sea barbecues. The separate Bedouin Dinner focuses on Egyptian dishes, grilled meat, Oriental bread and Egyptian sweets. Seafood Dinner is served beside the sea with a six-course menu, with meat and vegetarian alternatives available. For a quieter evening, a private candlelit Romantic Dinner is also available by the Red Sea.

Lunch and snacks are covered by several beachside options rather than the half-board restaurant. The 7Bft KiteHouse Restaurant serves lunch on the beach, while the KiteHouse Island Spot has a Caribbean-style bar and restaurant for snacks and cool drinks. The Reef Bar and Beach Bar run from morning cappuccino through to an evening aperitif or nightcap; the Beach Bar also has table football and a chill-out corner. Above you, the Rooftop Bar concentrates on cocktails and open-air cinema nights. There is enough choice to avoid eating in the same chair every day, which is useful when your main achievement before dinner was removing a wetsuit without falling over.

One outdoor pool, with flexible opening hours that extend beyond sunset, gives you an easy alternative to the sea. The beach adds sun loungers, parasols and a steady place to read, nap or do absolutely nothing with conviction. If you prefer a little structure, the gym, yoga sessions and CrossFit provide it without requiring a full expedition.

The wellness side includes the nearby Cascades Thalasso Spa, with thalasso treatments and massages, as well as a sauna on the rooftop and a beauty salon. Thai, hot stone, herbal and Soma Bay massages are available, along with treatments for the face, hands and feet. A yoga session followed by a cocktail is a sensible post-dive plan, even if the order occasionally reverses itself.

You can also fill an afternoon with beach volleyball, boccia, slackline, table tennis or padel. Tennis and golf are available, with the golf course within 3 km. On the water, the programme includes snorkelling, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, wing foiling, wakesurfing, wakeboarding and banana boat rides. Evening options include open-air cinema, a Sunset Tour with a DJ on selected days and Full Moon Parties, while live music, broadcast sport and themed dinner nights keep the later hours moving.

Hurghada International Airport is about 24 miles away. The hotel offers an airport shuttle, which you arrange with the hotel before travelling. Private parking is available on site, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. A 24-hour reception, luggage storage, currency exchange, an ATM and concierge service cover the useful arrivals-and-departures jobs.

Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out runs until 12:00. You need photo identification and a payment card at check-in, and the hotel needs your expected arrival time in advance. The minimum age for check-in is 18; guests under 18 can check in with a parent or official guardian.

Children are welcome. One child aged under six can share the parents’ room on the existing bedding within the same meal plan, while a baby cot is available for children up to nearly two years old. Extra beds are not available. Cash is accepted, and pets are not allowed. The lodge’s environmental work is unusually concrete. A Brita water-filter system and reusable stainless-steel bottles replace most single-use drinking bottles, while water dispensers and refill points are available at the bars, restaurant and 7Bft KiteHouse. Glass replaces plastic cups, straws and cocktail stirrers have been removed, and jams, yoghurt and other foods are served from bulk containers rather than individual packaging.

The hotel uses LED lighting, refillable soap dispensers and reusable delivery baskets. Food is sourced locally where possible, some items such as jams are produced in-house, and live cooking at the buffet helps reduce overproduction and organic waste. The 2023 renovation reduced construction waste, with many materials supplied by local artisans and businesses.

Beach clean-ups take place daily, with wider monthly clean-up days around the hotel, at the KiteHouse and on Tobia Island, as well as marina and underwater clean-ups twice a year. Guests can support native planting through tree sponsorships, while educational work encourages divers, swimmers and snorkellers to treat the coral reef with care. The hotel also protects local biodiversity by avoiding herbicides and using biological insect control.
