Palaka Siargao Dive Center

Established in 2013, Palaka Siargao Dive Center is integrated with the Palaka Siargao Boutique Resort, providing a dedicated diving base on Siargao Island, Philippines. The centre is positioned to offer a balance of adventure and relaxation, located just a short drive from the heart of General Luna.

As the only PADI and AIDA certified facility on the island, the centre is well-equipped to handle a wide variety of underwater disciplines. Whether you are looking to start your journey with a Discover Scuba Diving session or you are an experienced diver seeking the high-energy environments of the Pacific Ocean, the operations are structured around small group sizes and professional standards.

The team consists of certified, bilingual instructors capable of conducting courses in English, Spanish, French, and Tagalog. This linguistic range ensures clear communication during both classroom theory and in-water training sessions.

The centre places a strong emphasis on personalised instruction, maintaining small groups to ensure safety and a relaxed atmosphere. This approach is particularly beneficial for students working through their initial certifications or divers refining their buoyancy in more challenging conditions.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering both PADI scuba certifications and AIDA freediving programmes. Beginners can start with PADI Bubblemaker, Discover Scuba Diving, or the PADI Scuba Diver course, progressing through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver.

For those looking to advance their technical skills or safety protocols, the centre offers the PADI Rescue Diver Course and EFR – Emergency First Responder. Freediving enthusiasts can choose from PADI Basic Freediver, PADI Freediver, and PADI Advanced Freediver courses, alongside AIDA 1 and AIDA 2 certifications.

Excursions are conducted using speedboats, which allow for efficient travel between the shore and the various dive sites around the island. These boats facilitate access to both the calm, shallow lagoons of the bay and the more exposed sites out in the Pacific.

Daily schedules are divided into morning and afternoon sessions, with the option for night dives included in the centre's offerings. Onboard, water and coolers are provided for divers during the trips.

The centre provides a complete range of equipment for hire, ensuring divers can arrive with just their personal basics. This includes the necessary kit for both scuba and freediving disciplines.

For those undergoing training, the centre maintains a pool on-site specifically for confined water training sessions. This provides a controlled environment for students to practice skills before moving to open water.

The marine life around Siargao is diverse, ranging from large pelagics to intricate macro species. In the deeper Pacific sites, you can encounter Jacks, Trevally, Great barracuda, and Eagle rays. These larger animals are often seen patrolling the currents near the larger formations.

The reef structures, particularly at sites like Secret Garden and Daku Hills, are home to a wide array of colourful reef fish. You will find species such as anemonefish, lionfish, trumpetfish, yellow tail barracuda, and various snappers, including yellow striped snappers. Other common residents include pufferfish, porcupine fish, and redtooth triggerfish, alongside blue-spotted stingrays.

For those with an eye for detail, the macro life is abundant. The reefs host a variety of nudibranchs, razorfish, and Mandarin fish, as well as crocodile fish and various species of cuttlefish. Moray eels and even electric fire clams can be found tucked into the rockwork and coral formations.

Diving conditions on the island vary significantly depending on the location. The sites within the bay are generally calmer, while the Pacific Ocean sites, such as Blue Cathedral, can experience ripping currents and heavy surge.

While the area is accessible year-round, divers should be prepared for the energetic nature of the open ocean sites. The topography and currents make these locations better suited for those with more advanced certification levels.
