Phuket Fantasea is around a 10-minute walk from the resort, while lively Patong is about a 15-minute drive.

For the arrival day, Phuket International Airport is about 14 miles away, with a driving time of roughly 30 minutes. Laem Sing Beach is around 1 mile away by car, Surin Beach about 2 miles, and Kathu Waterfall around 3 miles.

The rooms are made for switching off rather than performing acrobatics around your luggage. Air conditioning, wooden flooring, a private balcony, a large flat-screen television and a refrigerator give you the basics that matter when you return warm, tired and slightly overfamiliar with your own dive bag. There is also an electric kettle, a seating area and a desk, so you can make tea, sort photographs or simply sit down without having to balance on the edge of the bed.

For two people, the standard Deluxe rooms keep things straightforward, while the Grand Deluxe rooms give you more elbow room. The Grand Deluxe Pool View Room is the obvious choice if watching the pool from your room matters more than having a ground-level terrace. The Junior Suite is the practical option for three adults, with a sofa bed as well as the main sleeping arrangement. It is the one to consider when you want space for people and luggage rather than a room that merely fits the booking form.

The bathrooms include a bath, bathrobes, slippers, towels, a hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. Daily housekeeping keeps the room in order while you are out, and room service is available on request. The beds are described as particularly comfortable, which is exactly the sort of feature that earns its keep when the next morning starts with another early boat.

Breakfast is a buffet served at The Spice House from 07:00 to 10:00, with international dishes and an air-conditioned indoor setting. Dinner gives you a second direction at Salero, where Mediterranean dishes are served on a terrace. It is a useful change from the usual resort routine: one restaurant works internationally indoors, the other takes dinner outside and leans towards the Mediterranean. There are two restaurants in total, with no continuous snack service listed, so the serious post-dive hunger is best aimed at the stated meal times or room service.

There are two bars. The Lobby Bar handles cocktails and other drinks away from the pool, while the Pool Bar lets you order cocktails without making a full expedition out of leaving the water. Room service is available on request for the evenings when the only realistic plan is food delivered to your door.

The main pool is a large outdoor pool with a swim-up bar, and pool or beach towels, loungers and parasols are available. Kamala Beach is just beyond the resort, so you can choose between sand under your feet and a few lengths in the water without committing to a full-day excursion. Sometimes that is plenty of activity for one afternoon.

Sun Spa offers massages and facial treatments, including full-body, foot, head, neck, back and hand massage options. The fitness centre gives you somewhere to stretch out or keep a routine going, while aerobics and yoga classes are available. Table tennis and billiards add a little competition for those who have recovered enough to care about the result.

When you want to see more of Phuket, the tour desk can arrange excursions, including trips to Phang Nga Bay and the Phi Phi Islands. Kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, boat excursions and equipment hire are also available by the beach. Evening entertainment and live music provide a reason to stay out after dinner, while a cooking class offers something more hands-on on a non-diving day.
