Built around a rural house dating from the early 1800s, Finca Isolina keeps its original character while giving you the comforts expected from a modern boutique hotel. Local artisans restored the building with natural materials, preserving its stone, wooden beams and traditional island architecture rather than polishing the history away.

With only seven individually designed rooms, this is an address for adults who prefer a small-scale stay to a large resort routine. You have gardens, terraces and ocean views reaching towards Fuerteventura and Lobos, with the volcanic landscape of Lanzarote doing most of the decorating. You stay in Mácher, at Camino El Rompimiento N1, in a volcanic landscape above the Atlantic. Finca Isolina is not a beach hotel: Playa Chica is about 2.3 miles away by car, while Puerto del Carmen Beach is roughly 2.1 miles away. That leaves you close to the coast without sleeping in the middle of the resort strip.

The location works well if you want to explore the island by car. Timanfaya National Park is around 11 miles away by road, the Campesino Monument about 8 miles, and the Montañas de Fuego roughly 8 miles. Local restaurants are within about 1.2 to 1.8 miles, and Lanzarote Airport is around 5 miles away by road, an approximately eight-minute drive.

The choice is less about collecting room categories and more about deciding how much space and outlook you want at the end of the day. The Junior Suite with Terrace is the sensible direction if you want room to spread out, sit outside and avoid the familiar post-dive luggage Tetris. For two, the Queen Room with Sea View or the Deluxe Double Room with Side Sea View puts the emphasis on the Atlantic rather than extra floor space.

Air conditioning matters when the island has been generous with sunshine, while soundproofing helps keep the night from turning into an accidental social event.
