It suits divers who want the coast to remain part of the day after leaving the water, as well as couples looking for a straightforward stay with somewhere worthwhile to eat on site. The atmosphere is built around the harbour, the bay and the footpaths, not around a long list of indoor entertainments. Sensible, really; Brittany has never needed much help from a conference brochure.

Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, room service, a shared lounge and luggage storage cover the useful little moments between arrival, dinner and the next outing. Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side simple, while soundproofed rooms and soundproofing in the building help you settle down when the day is done.

You are in Perros-Guirec, France, facing the small harbour of Ploumanac’h and right at the beginning of the coastal footpaths. The hotel has direct access to a golden sandy beach, with sun loungers and parasols available for beach time that requires no expedition planning.

Saint-Guirec Beach is about 300 metres away, around a five-minute walk. Trestraou Beach is about 1.5 miles away by the most direct local route, while Greve Blanche is roughly 2.5 miles away on foot. The setting gives you several ways to spend a non-diving morning: follow the coast, make for the sand or simply watch the harbour do its maritime business.

You are not cut off from everyday stops. Restaurants are close by, including Le Duplex only a few dozen metres away and Ty Jobic at about 100 metres. Lannion railway station is about 8 miles away, with the journey taking around 18 minutes by car; Brest Bretagne Airport is about 59 miles away, around 1 hour 20 minutes by car.

The choice is mainly about what you want to see when you draw the curtains. Courtyard-facing rooms keep the harbour view out of the equation and make practical sense when the room is chiefly a place to sleep, shower and recharge. Sea-view rooms turn the coast into part of the stay, while the room with a terrace adds outdoor space for a coffee or a quiet look at the weather before deciding what the day is allowed to do.

For two people, the Superior Room with Sea View or the Double Room with Terrace and Sea View are the natural choices if the outlook matters. The Suite with Sea View gives you more room to spread out and works for a small family or anyone who dislikes the traditional holiday ritual of stepping over bags. Larger groups can look towards the Duplex Apartment with Courtyard View, which has two bathrooms and the space to keep everyone from occupying the same square metre.

Inside, rooms have heating, a wardrobe or cupboard, a desk, a flat-screen television with satellite channels and a private bathroom with a shower or bath, towels and a hairdryer. Some rooms have a king-size bed, and daily housekeeping keeps the room in order while you are out walking, swimming or doing the more serious business of eating. The soundproofed rooms are a useful detail when your preferred bedtime is earlier than the rest of the coastline.

Breakfast is served daily in the dining room, where sea views come with the continental buffet. That gives you the basics before a coastal walk or a day spent exploring the waters around the Côte de Granit Rose, without requiring a complicated morning production.

There are two restaurants. Le Men Ruz serves bistronomic cooking based on fresh local produce and opens from Tuesday to Sunday lunchtime. La Table des Rochers offers gourmet cuisine, with Elisa in the dining room, Thibault in the kitchen and the team working around the meal rather than treating it as an afterthought. The restaurant is open throughout the year, so dinner can stay firmly on the hotel plan when your legs have had enough of the coastal path.

A bar, snack bar and coffee house on site give you options short of a full meal. Room service is also available, useful when the sensible decision is food in the room, feet up and no further negotiations with the outside world. Wine and champagne are available, and children’s meals can be arranged.

The coastal footpaths begin beside the hotel, which is the main attraction here and a rather good one. You can set off on foot without first finding a car park, follow the shoreline around the pink granite coast or choose a shorter walk when the legs are still negotiating with the previous day’s diving. Walking tours and hiking are available in the surrounding area.

For a slower afternoon, the direct beach access leads to golden sand, loungers and parasols. The hotel also has a terrace and sun terrace, with outdoor furniture for the important coastal discipline of sitting down and looking at the sea without calling it an activity. A shared lounge with board games and puzzles gives you an indoor option when Brittany decides to provide atmosphere in liquid form.

Bicycles can be hired, and the Pleumeur-Bodou golf course is about a ten-minute drive away. A tennis court is available off site. There is no need to build the whole stay around organised entertainment: the beach, harbour and paths do most of the work, while the hotel gives you somewhere comfortable to return to.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to midnight, and check-out from 08:00 to 11:00. A 24-hour front desk, private and express check-in and check-out, concierge service, a tour desk and luggage storage make arrival and departure easier, particularly if your travel day does not fit neatly around the room timetable.

Free public parking is available on site, but spaces cannot be reserved. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. The building has a lift, wheelchair-accessible facilities and facilities for disabled guests, while non-smoking rooms and a non-smoking hotel are available.
