The hotel has 42 rooms, direct access to the golf course and a useful mix of things to do on site when the weather turns typically Breton.

English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside French, so you can deal with the practical details without resorting to underwater hand signals at reception. The atmosphere is built around golf, gardens, a heated pool and a traditional restaurant: less resort theatre, more a straightforward base for exploring Ploemel, Carnac, the coast and the wider Morbihan area.

Couples can make good use of the combination of countryside, supper and wellness facilities, while the games room, board games and accessible rooms give the place some flexibility for family stays. The three-star format is clear and uncomplicated: a private balcony, a view over the golf course, garden or pool, free parking and somewhere to eat without getting back in the car.

The address is in Ploemel, in France, rather than in Étel itself. The hotel sits inland on the Saint-Laurent golf course, so you are not stepping straight from the entrance onto the beach. Kerhillio Beach is about 5 miles away, roughly 12 minutes by car, which puts the Atlantic within easy reach but keeps the hotel in a greener, quieter part of the region.

Carnac is about 7 miles away, Trinité-sur-Mer about 8 miles, and Quiberon about 12 miles. Auray and its TGV station are around 15 minutes away by car, while Vannes is about 25 minutes and Lorient about 35 minutes. In other words, you can base yourself here for the coast and the prehistoric monuments, but a car will make the timetable considerably less heroic.

You have several nearby diversions for a non-diving day: Château de Keraveon is about 4 miles away, the dolmen sites of the area sit within roughly 4 to 5 miles, and the Carnac Stones are about 7 miles from the hotel. The nearest railway options are Belz–Ploemel, about 2 miles away by road, and Plouharnel station, about 5 miles away.

Every room comes with a private balcony, giving you somewhere to sit with a drink while looking over the golf course, garden or swimming pool. That outdoor space is particularly useful here: you can come back from the coast, leave the day behind and take in a bit of air without having to find a terrace in town.

For a couple, the Superior Double Room is the obvious choice if you want a little more room around the bed and luggage. Standard double and twin rooms keep things simpler, while the disability-access double or twin option gives you a more specific layout to consider when accessibility matters. The twin arrangement is also practical for two diving friends who would rather not negotiate the traditional double-bed treaty.

Inside, you have a private bathroom with a shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer, plus a wardrobe, an electric kettle and a socket near the bed. Rooms are non-smoking and heated. A flat-screen television carries satellite channels and Canal+, while free WiFi covers the hotel. It measures 10 by 15 metres, with one section at 90 centimetres and another at 160 centimetres, so you can either walk and loosen stiff legs or swim properly. A heated outdoor pool is also available seasonally, with the outdoor pool open from May to mid-September; the covered pool operates seasonally as well, from May to mid-October according to the weather.

The wellness facilities are unusually useful after a demanding day outside: sauna, hammam, a spa relaxation area and massage treatments, including back, neck, foot, head, hand, full-body and couples massages. Sauna and hammam sessions are available to guests, while under-18s are not permitted in the sauna. Sun loungers, a garden, a sun terrace and outdoor furniture give you several places to sit when you have had enough of being horizontal in a wetsuit.

If sitting still becomes too ambitious, you can use the fitness centre, play billiards, table tennis or darts, or spend time in the games room. Cycling, walking tours and bike tours are available, while golf is directly accessible at Saint Laurent and the surrounding area offers hiking.
