You come here for space, independence and a change of scenery rather than a hotel routine. The residence occupies a listed historic château, with accommodation arranged across the donjon, main house and orangery, all set among gardens and woodland near Erdeven.

That makes it a sensible base for a diving holiday when you want somewhere to cook, sit down properly and spread out a little between outings. The property works particularly well for couples who prefer an apartment to a standard room, and for families or groups who need separate sleeping areas. You are in Erdeven, in the Brittany countryside, roughly 0.6 miles from the town centre and about 3.1 miles from the coast. The château itself is around 0.2 miles from Château de Keraveon, while the surrounding park gives the address a distinctly rural setting rather than a seafront one.

Kerhillio Beach is about 2.7 miles away by car, with a journey of roughly seven minutes. Kervegant Beach is farther out, around 7 miles by car. The coast brings sandy beaches and water activities, while Carnac, Quiberon, Auray, the Ria d'Etel and the Gulf of Morbihan all sit within reach for days when the sea is not on the plan.

There is a crêperie within about 0.5 miles and other restaurants around 0.7 miles away. Plouharnel railway station is about 3.6 miles away by car, and Lorient South Brittany Airport is roughly 23 miles away, with a drive of about 37 minutes.

The useful distinction here is not the room label but the amount of living space you want around you. The studio is the compact choice for two, with a sofa bed and a private bathroom. For a longer stay, the one-bedroom apartment gives you a separate bedroom and a proper living area, while the larger apartments make more sense when several people need to share without turning every evening into a negotiation over sofa space.

Every apartment has its own bathroom, dining area and kitchen equipment, including a hob, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. That refrigerator earns its keep when you return warm, hungry and not remotely interested in hunting down dinner. You also get a seating area, heating, a flat-screen TV and soundproofing, with WiFi available throughout the property.

Families are catered for with family rooms, and children of any age are welcome. A ground-floor three-room apartment is adapted for guests with reduced mobility, while some parts of the château have a lift. Cots can be arranged for younger children, but extra beds are not available.

This is self-catering, so your apartment kitchen is the main dining room. A table, hob, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher and kitchenware give you the basics for breakfast, a packed lunch or the sort of generous evening meal that follows a day in the water. There is no hotel meal plan shaping your timetable; you set it yourself.

For eating out, the local Breton menu does the obvious job properly: fish, seafood, cider, crêpes, galettes and kouign-amann are all part of the regional offering. Two crêperies are within roughly 0.5 miles, and Galileo is about 0.7 miles away. It is close enough to make dinner out practical, but not so close that the residence turns into a restaurant strip.

The bar question is simple: drinks and meals are handled outside the residence or in your own apartment. That suits you if you would rather open something cold at the table than dress for a lobby bar.

The outdoor heated pool is open from June to September, giving you an easy way to cool off or loosen up without planning another excursion. The 20-hectare grounds also leave room for a slower sort of afternoon, with woodland, open parkland and paths around the château.

There is plenty to do locally when you are not diving, eating or sitting with a drink. Tennis, squash, mountain biking, cycling and hiking are available in the area, while the coast adds sailing, sea kayaking, boat trips, boat hire and sand yachting. Golf is another option, with the Saint-Laurent course offering 18-hole and nine-hole layouts.

For a day with more history than exertion, you can head towards Carnac and its megalithic alignments, dolmens, chapels, churches, manors and mills. The wider area also includes Quiberon, Auray, the Ria d'Etel, Belle-Île-en-Mer, Groix, Port-Louis, Lorient and Vannes, along with horse riding, paintball, karting, quad biking, mini golf, adventure parks and cinema.

Free on-site parking keeps the practical side straightforward, and WiFi is available throughout the residence. Luggage storage and laundry are available, with the laundry service carrying an additional charge. Pets are welcome, with up-to-date vaccination records and identification required; dogs must be kept on a lead within the grounds.

Check-in is generally between 16:00 and 19:00 outside the main season, and between 17:00 and 20:00 in season for the rental formula. Short stays follow a different arrival time, so check the formula attached to your booking. You need to provide your expected arrival time, photo identification and a payment card. Check-out is by 10:00.

Reception opening hours vary with the season and day of the week, with reduced hours on some days and a full-day closure on Wednesdays. Online check-in is available, which can make arrival less of a queueing exercise. The residence offers both short stays and stays of seven nights or more, so it can work for a focused diving break as well as a longer Breton base.
