The immediate area is practical for a hotel stay: several restaurants are about 0.3 miles away, including Restaurant U Culombu, Domaine Terra di Catoni and Le Vinci Macinaggio Cap Corse. Bastia–Poretta Airport is about 34 miles away by road. Porto-Vecchio is not the useful reference point here; Macinaggio is the place to enter when planning your route.

The rooms are compact double rooms built around a king-size bed, air conditioning, a private bathroom, satellite television, a wardrobe and an electric kettle. That is enough for a straightforward night’s recovery: cool the room down, make a hot drink, close the door and let the soundproofing do its work while your legs remember the day’s diving.

The cooking is Mediterranean, with fresh regional produce, and the setting is an outdoor terrace with a casual dress code. Breakfast starts at 7am, which is a useful hour when you have a morning departure to catch. A packed lunch can be arranged, and all-day snacking is available for the awkward gap between coming out of the water and sitting down properly. Vegetarian and gluten-free diets are catered for, and late dinner is available when the day has run on longer than planned.

There is one bar: Bar U Ricordu, a comfortable lobby bar with cocktails and other drinks. Room service runs from midday to 10pm, and the minibar gives you something cold without requiring a trip downstairs. In other words, you can eat outside, drink at the bar or keep things quiet in your room; the hotel does not force every evening into the same shape.

After repetitive finning and the usual battle with wetsuit zips, a foot massage is not a philosophical concept; it is a sensible use of an afternoon.

Kayaking, paddleboarding and boat excursions are available on the water, and there are cultural excursions to Porto-Vecchio and trips to the Île de Cerbicale.
