Koya Plongee

Based in the Hérault department, Koya Plongée provides a personalised approach to diving in the Mediterranean and surrounding freshwater environments. The operation is led by Benoit Pecetto, an instructor with extensive experience gained in the waters of Guadeloupe, French Polynesia, and the Mediterranean.

Rather than operating from a single fixed location, the service works through a network of partner centres spanning from Carnon to Frontignan. This allows for flexible access to various dive sites, including the unique ecosystems of the Étang de Thau and the inland waters of Lac du Salagou.

The centre is run by Benoit Pecetto, an independent instructor who brings a wealth of international experience to the local diving community. His background in tropical waters and the Mediterranean ensures a high level of expertise for divers of all abilities.

Instruction is available in French. The training programmes are designed for divers aged 14 and up, with a requirement for a valid medical certificate for all certification courses, though discovery dives and introductory sessions are exempt from this requirement.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering both scuba diving and freediving disciplines. For those starting their journey, discovery dives and various entry-level certifications are offered. Scuba training progresses through the PE series, including PE12, Niveau 1 (PE20), PE40, and advanced levels such as PA12, PA20, and PA40.

For more experienced divers, specialized courses include Nitrox and Etanche (buoyancy) training. The centre also places a strong emphasis on freediving, offering FreeDiver 1 and Randonneur Apnéiste programmes for those looking to master breath-hold diving and apnea techniques.

Koya Plongée provides full equipment hire for divers, covering all the essentials needed for a successful session. Whether you are a novice on your first discovery dive or an experienced diver needing a specific kit, the necessary equipment is available.

Nitrox is available for use, allowing for extended bottom times during your dives. This is particularly useful for those following training programmes or planning multiple dives in a single day.

The underwater life in the Hérault region is remarkably varied. In the freshwater environments of the Étang de Thau and Lac du Salagou, you can encounter species such as pike, zander, perch, and silurus.

In the Mediterranean reaches, the biodiversity includes wrasses and various blennies. The seagrass meadows and rocky areas provide a habitat for a range of smaller inhabitants that make every dive interesting.

Macro life enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, including seahorses, pipefish, and combtooth blenny. These smaller, more delicate species inhabit the vegetation and crevices, offering rewarding sightings for those who dive with a keen eye.
