Located in the heart of Grand Baie, Sunset Diving occupies a rare and highly convenient position with direct access to the lagoon. The centre is situated right on the water's edge, featuring its own private jetty just 10 metres from the local, making the transition from shore to boat seamless for every diver.

As a French-run club and an official Scubapro partner, the centre maintains a high standard of kit and instruction. It was recognised as the best dive centre in Mauritius in July 2022 by DOODIVE, reflecting its commitment to professional standards and safety in the North of the island.

The team operates with a professional and friendly approach, catering to a variety of needs including specialised instruction for those with aquaphobia. They provide training in small groups, and often offer private lessons without additional surcharges to ensure focused skill development.

The centre is highly versatile in its affiliations, holding credentials with PADI, SSI, FFESSM, and CMAS. This allows them to support a wide range of divers, whether you are looking for a traditional FFESSM progression or the global standards of PADI or SSI.

A complete range of certifications is available through PADI and SSI, covering everything from Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water to Divemaster. They also offer specialized training such as PADI Deep Diver, PADI Drift Diver, PADI Wreck Diver, and PADI Boat Diver.

For those following the French system, the centre provides FFESSM Niveau 1 and Niveau 2 courses. They also host various specialty modules including Nitrox, Search and Recovery, Navigation, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. For beginners, they offer the PADI Scuba Diver and SSI Scuba Diver programmes, as well as introductory discovery dives.

The centre operates a LOMAC 850 CLUB semi-rigid, powered by twin 150hp Suzuki motors. This vessel has a capacity for 20 divers and is well-equipped for comfortable trips on the water, featuring a removable roof for shade and a freshwater shower on board to rinse off after your dives.

For logistics, the boat is fitted with racks for 36 cylinders and carries essential navigation and safety gear, including GPS, a depth sounder, VHF radio, and an oxygen kit. Nitrox is available on board for those running extended bottom times.

The centre is a Scubapro Sea centre, meaning you can expect well-maintained and regularly renewed Scubapro kit. Full equipment hire is available, including computers and GoPro cameras for those travelling without their own gear.

On-site facilities include a dedicated training pool, which is essential for beginner skills practice or for divers working through specific buoyancy or rescue modules. The centre also provides a service where staff assist with carrying cylinders for divers.

The reefs around Grand Baie are vibrant, with Coral Garden and Coin de Mire offering spectacular views of colourful corals and a high density of tropical fish. You will regularly encounter sea turtles, rays, and various species of butterflyfish and moray eels among the reef structures.

On the deeper walls and wrecks, the fauna shifts towards larger pelagics and specialised inhabitants. It is common to see tuna, lionfish, and triggerfish, while the deeper sections of the reef are often adorned with pink crinoids.

For those looking for larger predators, the Fosse Aux Requins site offers the chance to see sharks, though this is a specialised, high-current dive that is only accessible when weather conditions are perfect, typically between October and May.

Diving in the area can involve varying levels of water movement. While many reef sites are relatively calm, certain locations like the Fosse Aux Requins are known for strong currents and require significant experience and confidence in moving water.

Some sites are best suited for specific conditions; for example, the shark dives at the Fosse Aux Requins are highly weather-dependent and are generally most successful from October to May. Always check with the team regarding the day's swell and current before heading out.
