Hotel Son Caliu Spa Oasis

If your ideal post-dive routine involves warm water, a robe, something cold to drink and no urgent reason to put your shoes back on, Hotel Son Caliu Spa Oasis has the right shape. Gardens surround the property, while direct access leads down to Son Caliu Beach, a golden-sand cove with sun loungers and parasols.

You will also be understood easily on arrival and throughout your stay: the hotel team speaks English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian. That matters when you are arranging dinner, asking about the spa or trying to explain that your room key has vanished into the same mysterious pocket as your sunglasses.

The hotel suits couples particularly well, with rooms and suites designed for one or two guests, although the Son Caliu Suite with Mediterranean Views accommodates three. The mood is more about gardens, sea views, wellness and a drink after dinner than about a packed programme.

You are in Palmanova, on Avenida Son Caliu, right beside the sea. The hotel has direct access to Son Caliu Beach, and Platja de Ponent Mar is about 0.3 miles away on foot. Es Carregador Beach is roughly 0.4 miles away, while Punta Negra Beach and Palma Nova Beach are both around 0.7 miles away.

That gives you several beaches within an easy wander, rather than one resort shoreline and a long debate about whether it counts as a walk. Portals Nous marina and its beaches are under a mile away. You can also reach nearby bars and restaurants on foot, including Pizzeria Extremadura about 0.1 miles away and Mood around 0.2 miles away.

Palma de Mallorca Airport is about 11 miles away by road, with a driving time of roughly 18 minutes. Palma Intermodal Station is around 8 miles away by road. If you want to swap the cove for the city, central Palma's museums, historic buildings and squares are within driving distance.

The standard double or twin rooms keep things straightforward for a diving couple: air conditioning, a balcony, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV, a minibar and a private bathroom with shower. Rooms are bright and spacious, with a wardrobe, clothes rack and drying rack for clothing. That last detail is for your everyday kit rather than diving equipment, but it is still useful when the Mediterranean has taken charge of your swimwear.

If the view matters, the sea-view categories are the ones to look at. The Premium Double Room with Sea View gives you the clearest version of that arrangement, while the partial-sea-view option offers a compromise. The Premium Double Room with Sea View and Private Pool is aimed at couples who would rather step straight outside for a quiet dip than join the main pool scene.

For more room to spread out, the suites offer separate living space by category, sea or Mediterranean views and, in some cases, two bathrooms. The Golf Suite with Sea View and Private Pool and the Deluxe Suite with Sea View are the more generous choices. Solo divers can book single-occupancy twin rooms, while children of any age are welcome; cots are available on request, and extra beds are not available.

Breakfast is served as a buffet, giving you the sensible option of building a proper plate before heading out rather than discovering halfway through the morning that coffee alone was a poor tactical decision. Restaurant Biniagual covers breakfast, lunch and dinner with Mediterranean cooking based on fresh, seasonal produce.

Terraza Garden Bar also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with Mediterranean and international dishes on its terrace overlooking the garden. It runs from 10:30 until 00:30, so you have somewhere to land when the day has stretched beyond the original plan. The Pool Bar serves snacks, drinks and cocktails beside the pool from 11:00 until 19:00.

For the evening, Capricho Cocktail Bar focuses on cocktails and premium drinks, while Portals Lounge is reserved for adults. KABO Beach House handles lunch and dinner on the beach, with Mediterranean food and sea views. Room service runs around the clock, and Restaurant Biniagual asks men to wear long trousers at dinner.

The sensible centrepiece is Spa Oasis, a 1,100-square-metre spa with an indoor thermal pool, Turkish baths, sensation showers, sauna and Jacuzzi. You can use the spa and outdoor swimming pool, then settle in the palm garden with a lounger and let the salt, sun and repeated discussions about tomorrow's dive site work themselves out.

Treatments include massages, facials, mud baths, body wraps and other body treatments. Massages and treatments carry an additional charge, while access to the Spa Oasis area requires a reservation. Children can use the spa during restricted hours, and guests under 16 cannot use the sauna or gym for safety reasons.

There is also a free gym with fitness classes, yoga and a personal trainer, plus a free tennis court and tennis equipment. Cycling is available, with bicycle rental on site, and golf is within easy reach: five golf courses are less than 15 minutes away by car. Live music and evening entertainment provide a change of pace when you want company without committing to a full excursion.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to midnight, and check-out is by 12:00. You will need photo identification and a credit card at check-in. The reception is open 24 hours, with private check-in and check-out, luggage storage and a tour desk available. Car hire can also be arranged.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Free public parking is available nearby, although spaces cannot be reserved. That is useful if you are hiring a car for beaches, golf or Palma, but less useful if you expect a guaranteed space waiting under the window.
