Maupiti Diving is a human-scale dive centre situated in the heart of French Polynesia. The operation is centred around the observation of manta rays, providing divers with the opportunity to witness these pelagics in their natural habitat within the lagoon.

Guided by Teddy, the centre focuses on intimate diving experiences. By limiting groups to between four and five divers, the team maintains a high level of personal attention and ensures that the presence of divers remains as unobtrusive as possible to the local marine life.

The team is led by Teddy and operates with a focus on small group sizes, never exceeding five divers per guide. This ratio is designed to maintain both safety and a high quality of interaction with the underwater environment.

The centre provides instruction in both French and English. They offer a range of internationally recognised training programmes through CMAS and SDI, catering to those looking to progress from their first bubbles to advanced levels.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of training through CMAS and SDI. For those new to the water, they offer Scuba Diver, Open Water Diver, and various introductory 'Baptême' programmes.

Experienced divers can progress through CMAS Level 1, 2, 3, and 4, or pursue SDI certifications such as Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver. They also offer refresher dives for those looking to regain their confidence before heading back into the water.

The centre operates a 19-foot Poti Marara powered by a 140 CV motor. This vessel is designed to carry up to six people, making it ideal for the small-group format the centre prides itself on.

On board, you will find all necessary diving equipment and a first aid kit, as well as an oxygen therapy kit for safety. The boat is used for both lagoon explorations and ocean outings, depending on the conditions.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for those not travelling with their own kit, though you must provide your own dive computer for any dives exceeding 20 metres.

In the lagoon, the Manta ray is the primary attraction, particularly during their mating season from June to December. At the cleaning stations, you can observe them alongside cleaner wrasses, pearl oysters, syngnathids, bulldozer shrimp, nudibranchs, octopuses, moray eels, leopard rays, and filefish.

The ocean drop-off provides a different ecosystem, where you may encounter parrotfish, pterois, soldierfish, surgeonfish, triggerfish, Napoleon wrasse, barracuda, jacks, tuna, leopard rays, and grey sharks.

Macro life is present throughout the area, including various nudibranchs and small crustaceans like bulldozer shrimp. You may also spot octopuses and various species of shrimp tucked into the reef structure.

The lagoon offers varying currents, and the pass into the lagoon is known to be dangerous. For the best visibility within the lagoon, plan your visit between March and October.

Ocean outings are highly dependent on swell and wind conditions. During the 'mara’amu' period, which occurs from May to October, strong winds can make ocean departures difficult.
