NHN Lodge

NHN Lodge is a detached holiday home in Avatoru, with direct access to the beach and space that works particularly well when you are travelling with family or a small group. Three bedrooms and a shared bathroom give the place the shape of a proper base rather than a room where everyone has to negotiate the same chair.

The mood is straightforward and self-contained. You have a garden, a sun terrace and outdoor seating for the parts of the day that do not need a timetable. WiFi is available throughout, while the kitchen facilities let you organise food and drinks around your own plans rather than someone else’s service hours.

That makes NHN Lodge a practical choice for divers who prefer room to spread out, the freedom to prepare something simple, and a beachfront setting without the formal choreography of a large hotel.

The lodge is in Avatoru, on Rangiroa in French Polynesia, with the beach directly on the property. Garden and inner-courtyard views keep the setting grounded in the place itself, while the terrace and outdoor furniture give you somewhere to sit outside without having to go anywhere first.

Rangiroa Airport is about 1.5 miles away by road, with a drive of roughly two minutes. That is useful when you have luggage, dive bags and the general collection of objects that somehow accompanies even a supposedly simple island trip.

For eating out, Chez Lili and Snack Puna are both around one mile away, or about a 19-minute walk. Car hire is available at the lodge, and bicycle rental gives you another way to explore the surroundings.

The accommodation is one three-bedroom house, with enough room for up to nine guests. That makes the layout a sensible match for a family, a group of friends, or several divers who would rather share a house than divide themselves across separate rooms. The private bathroom includes a shower, hairdryer and toiletries.

Each room has a kitchenette with kitchenware, a refrigerator, a microwave and an electric kettle. The refrigerator matters more than its brochure status: cold water and food waiting for you are useful details when the day has involved salt, sun and a boat. A washing machine also helps keep the packing list under control on a longer stay.

A ceiling fan handles the air movement at night. The house is non-smoking, and the outdoor space gives you a choice between the garden, the courtyard view and the sun terrace when you want to sit down without turning the bedroom into a living room.

The hotel is arranged around self-catering rather than a hotel restaurant. The house has its own kitchen and kitchenette facilities, while a shared kitchen adds another option when you are travelling as part of a group. There is a refrigerator, microwave, kettle and kitchenware, so simple breakfasts, packed lunches and post-dive meals can be handled on your own timetable.

There is no bar listed at the lodge, so the evening here is more about the terrace, the picnic area and the contents of your own kitchen than ordering a drink at a counter. That will suit you if you value independence and do not mind making the plan yourself.

When cooking is not the plan, Chez Lili and Snack Puna are both about one mile away. They give you nearby alternatives for eating out, with the choice of walking or using available transport.

The beach is right outside, and the lodge’s garden, sun terrace and outdoor seating do much of the work for a slow afternoon. You can take a walking tour, settle into the picnic area or simply let the island do what islands are supposed to do while you sit still for a while.

Snorkelling is available away from the property, and walking tours offer a way to see more of Rangiroa without turning the day into another organised expedition. Bike tours are available, with bicycle rental at the lodge, while car hire gives you more range when the legs have already done enough work.

The tour desk can help organise outings, and a pub crawl is also listed among the activities. It is an unusually energetic option for a place where the garden and beach make doing nothing perfectly viable.

Arrival takes place between 14:00 and 20:00, and you need to let the lodge know your expected arrival time. Departure is between 11:00 and 13:00. Private check-in and check-out are available, with express check-in and check-out also offered.

A shuttle service can be arranged with the lodge, and car hire is available on site. Rangiroa Airport is about 1.5 miles away by road, so the transfer is short; you can also use the airport proximity when planning luggage, flights and the awkward gap between arrival and getting properly settled.

Private parking is available on site without reservation, and WiFi is free throughout the property. The lodge also welcomes pets, with no extra charge, which may be useful if your island trip includes more than dive equipment and sun cream.
