Diving Ocean Makadi Bay has been operating in Egypt since 2001, establishing itself as a reliable fixture in the region. Located at the Prima Life Hotel, the centre is situated directly on the beach, allowing you to walk from your room straight to the water's edge.

The centre is perfectly positioned for those staying in Sahl Hasheesh or Makadi Bay, roughly 30 km south of Hurghada. It serves as a base for both relaxed reef explorations and more ambitious excursions to the surrounding Red Sea sites.

As a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort, the centre is run by a team of certified, multilingual instructors. You can communicate with your guides in English, Italian, French, Spanish, or Arabic, ensuring clear briefings and instruction.

Safety is a core priority, with the centre being insured by DAN Europe. For those looking for more autonomy, divers with more than 30 certified dives and their own dive computer can explore the house reef without a guide.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of PADI certifications, from the initial Discover Scuba Diver and Bubble Maker programmes through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver. For those looking to progress further, they provide Rescue Diver, Deep Diver, and Scuba Diver courses.

Specialised training includes the Enriched Air Nitrox course. Beyond scuba, the centre is also a hub for freediving, offering a full suite of AIDA courses from AIDA 1 Discovery through to AIDA 4 Master Freediver. An EFR dry course is also available on-site.

The centre utilises traditional feluccas for half-day excursions, which are ideal for exploring the heart of Makadi Bay. These trips allow you to reach over ten different dive sites within a 10 to 30-minute navigation.

For longer adventures, the centre organises full-day trips to the Giftun Marine Park or towards Safaga. They also offer tailor-made full-day boat trips to the best sites north of Makadi Bay towards Hurghada or south towards Safaga.

The shore-based facilities include a dedicated swimming pool specifically designed for training courses. For classroom sessions, there is an air-conditioned room available for briefings and video reviews.

On-site equipment is well-maintained, featuring Aqualung kit, Bauer compressors, and Mares dive computers. For those needing to hire gear, a full range is available, including BCDs, regulators, long wetsuits, shorties, masks, and fins. Nitrox is available in 12-litre and 15-litre cylinders.

The reefs are teeming with colourful reef fish, including Butterflyfish (Chaetodon), Parrotfish (Calotomus), and various Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae). You will often see large schools of Jack (Carangidae) and Tuna (Thunnus) moving through the water, alongside Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda).

Larger pelagics and residents include various Grouper (Epinephelus) species, Lionfish (Pterois volitans), and several types of turtles. Keep an eye out for sharks and dolphins (Delphinidae) during your boat trips.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers plenty to discover, from Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani) to various scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae). You may also encounter red octopuses, hooded cuttlefish, and different types of rays, such as blue-spotted rays and feather tail stingrays.

The centre offers daily guided dives starting at 08:30 and 10:30. Depending on the itinerary, you may experience drift dives in the bay or more sheltered dives around the reef flats.
