Established in 1982, Solo Buceo is the oldest dive operator in Cancun, offering a deep well of local knowledge and decades of experience navigating the Mexican Caribbean. They have built a reputation on being pioneers in the region, having been among the first to organise whale shark encounters and sailing-based snorkeling excursions.

The centre is uniquely positioned on the beach, allowing for efficient transitions from shore to boat. This location provides direct access to some of the most iconic sites in the area, ranging from the underwater art of MUSA to the deep, offshore pinnacles of the Manta Valley.

The team consists of highly qualified, bilingual instructors certified through both PADI and SSI. They focus on maintaining small, personalised groups to ensure safety and a high standard of instruction for every diver.

Safety and professional standards are central to their operation, with a guide-to-diver ratio maintained at a maximum of two divers per guide. This ensures that whether you are a novice exploring a reef or an advanced diver planning a wreck penetration, you have dedicated professional support.

Solo Buceo offers a comprehensive range of training through PADI and SSI. For those starting their journey, they provide PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver courses, including e-learning options to get the theory out of the way before you hit the water.

For continuing divers, the curriculum extends to Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster certifications. They also offer specialized training such as the Nitrox course, which is essential for many of the deeper or more technical sites in the region.

The centre operates a dedicated fleet of nine boats, each specifically chosen or designed for different diving environments. This allows them to tailor the vessel to the specific needs of the dive, whether it is a stable platform for reef exploration or a more robust setup for offshore trips.

Onboard, you can expect a well-provisioned experience with water, snacks, fruit, sodas, and sandwiches provided. For those heading out on longer excursions, the boats are equipped to handle the specific requirements of the day's itinerary.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes all the essentials, with wetsuits available for an additional fee, specifically 3mm suits provided for cenote diving.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time. The centre's facilities are designed to be efficient, allowing you to focus on the dive itself rather than the logistics of gear preparation.

The reefs and wrecks of Cancun are home to a diverse array of marine life. You will regularly encounter snapper, great barracuda, angelfish, groupers, and sea turtles. Silky sharks and various species of rays are also part of the regular ecosystem.

Seasonality plays a significant role in what you might see. From June to September, whale sharks are the primary attraction, while eagle rays can be found between November and February. If you visit in late September or October, you have the chance to see giant manta rays at the cleaning stations.

In the deeper offshore waters, the presence of large pelagics is a highlight of the region's biodiversity. The combination of reef systems and deep-sea pinnacles creates a rich habitat for a wide variety of species.

Diving conditions in the region vary depending on the site. The local reefs, such as Manchones, typically experience light currents, making them accessible and comfortable for a wide range of experience levels.

In contrast, offshore sites like the Manta Valley are subject to stronger currents. These locations require more experienced divers who are comfortable managing moving water while exploring the pinnacles.
