Squalo Adventures

Located in the heart of Isla Mujeres, Squalo Adventures operates as both an international SSI Training Centre and a PADI Dive Resort. The shop is situated on Av. Hidalgo, within easy walking distance of the main ferry terminal, making it a convenient base for divers staying on the island.

Since 2004, this family-run operation has focused on providing personalised experiences in the Mexican Caribbean. Their proximity to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef allows for diverse diving, ranging from calm, protected bay environments to more adventurous drift dives and cave explorations.

The team is composed of experienced PADI and SSI instructors and divemasters who prioritise small group sizes. You will never be in a group larger than four divers per guide, ensuring individual attention during training or exploration dives.

Instruction is available in both English and Spanish. The centre's long-standing presence in the area is supported by a team that understands the local waters and the specific requirements of both novice students and seasoned divers.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of certifications through both PADI and SSI. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water Diver course, with subsequent levels including Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver.

For those looking to specialise, the course catalogue includes Enriched Air Diver, Deep Diving, Drift Diving, Night Diving, Peak Performance Buoyancy, and Underwater Navigation. Professional training is also available for those aiming for the Divemaster qualification.

The centre operates fast, comfortable boats equipped with two 150 horsepower YAMAHA four-stroke outboard engines. The vessels feature a covered top to provide shade from the sun or protection from the rain during your trip.

On board, you will find essential safety and convenience kit, including a radio, GPS, emergency oxygen, and life jackets. To help look after your photography kit, the boats are also equipped with camera rinse tubs, and snacks, fruit, and water are provided during the journey.

Squalo Adventures offers full equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes everything required for a complete dive, from regulators to wetsuits.

For those looking to extend their bottom time, Nitrox is available on site. The shop is conveniently located in Plaza Isla Mujeres, providing a central hub for your diving needs.

The reefs around Isla Mujeres are home to a diverse array of tropical fish and large schools of fish that gather around shipwrecks and artificial reefs. You can regularly encounter rays, parrotfish, and various species of coral across the different dive sites.

Macro life and crustaceans are frequently spotted among the reef structures. Keep an eye out for lobsters, octopus, crabs, and various species of reef fish during your exploration.

Seasonal visitors include whale sharks, which can be seen from May to September. You may also see turtles more frequently during the months of May and June.

The diving environment varies depending on your location. Protected areas within the bay of Isla Mujeres offer very calm conditions with little to no current, reaching depths of around 9 metres, which is ideal for training.

For a different experience, the Punta Sur area offers drift diving. While much of the area is calm, these drift dives allow you to move with the current to explore the southern point of the island.
