Located in Key Largo, Florida, Horizon Divers has been a fixture of the local diving community since 2000. The centre is strategically positioned to provide access to the diverse marine environments of the Florida Bay, ranging from vibrant reef flats to deep, historic wreck sites.

The centre operates as a PADI Instructor Development Centre (IDC), meaning they are not just a dive shop, but a hub for professional training. This high level of accreditation underpins their dual focus on recreational exploration and advanced technical diving.

As an IDC centre, the team at Horizon Divers is geared towards high-level instruction. They cater to everyone from those taking their first Discover Scuba Diving course to professional divers pursuing Divemaster or Instructor certifications.

The centre maintains a strict diver-to-guide ratio, with a maximum of four divers per guide. This ensures close supervision and a controlled environment, which is particularly important for their technical and rebreather programmes.

All instruction and diving operations are conducted in English. The team's expertise is reflected in their ability to teach complex disciplines, including PADI Tec Diving and TDI technical courses.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering the entire spectrum of PADI and TDI training. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver courses. Advanced divers can progress through the Advanced Open Water and Rescue Diver programmes.

For those looking to move into the professional ranks, the centre offers Divemaster and Instructor Training. They are also a specialist hub for technical diving, providing PADI Tec Diving courses such as TEC 40, 45, 50, and 65 Trimix Diver, alongside PADI-DSAT Gas Blender training and rebreather courses.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit for those not travelling with their own equipment, including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, masks, snorkels, and fins. Divers can also rent dive computers and fins separately if required.

For technical divers, the facility is equipped to support advanced profiles, with Nitrox and Trimix available. The centre also supports rebreather divers, making it a comprehensive base for both gas and closed-circuit operations.

The surrounding waters are home to a diverse array of large marine life. You can regularly encounter sea turtles, including the Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) and Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta), alongside various species of Ray (Batoidea). Large schools of fish, such as snapper, grunts, and jacks (Carangidae), move through the water, often accompanied by Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) and various species of shark.

The reef architecture is built upon a foundation of corals and Sponge (Porifera), providing a complex habitat for smaller inhabitants. You will see plenty of colourful fish, including angelfish (Pomacanthidae), parrotfish (Calotomus), and various species of snapper (Lutjanus).

Macro life and smaller residents are abundant if you look closely at the reef structure. Keep an eye out for Moray eel (Muraenidae), Christmas tree tubeworms, mantis shrimp, and various species of shrimp (Caridea). Scorpion fish and crabs are also frequently found amongst the crevices of the reef and wrecks.

Diving in Key Largo involves a variety of environments, from shallow reef flats to deeper wreck sites. Divers should be prepared for different conditions depending on whether they are exploring the wrecks or the natural reef systems.
