Rainbow Reef Dive Center is a well-established diving hub situated in Key Largo, within the Upper Keys. Positioned a short drive from Miami, the centre serves as a gateway to some of the most diverse marine environments in Florida, ranging from vibrant coral reefs to historic shipwrecks and dramatic wall dives.

The centre operates with a strong focus on the local ecosystem, holding the Blue Star certification from the sanctuary. Whether you are looking to complete your initial certifications or are an experienced diver seeking technical training, the facilities and fleet are designed to support a wide range of diving objectives.

As a PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre, the facility is geared towards both recreational divers and professional career development. They offer a full spectrum of training, from entry-level courses through to the highest levels of instructor training, including Course Director.

The team provides professional guiding on all standard excursions, ensuring that every trip is managed by experienced hands. This professional approach extends to their training programmes, which cover everything from specialty skills to advanced professional certifications.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the entire PADI progression. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the Open Water Scuba Diver course, with the option to complete the theory online. Intermediate and advanced divers can progress through the Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver courses.

Specialty training is a core part of the curriculum, with courses available in Nitrox, Deep Diver, Navigation, and Wreck diving. For those looking to enter the professional ranks, the centre provides pathways through Divemaster, Open Water Scuba Instructor, and beyond, up to Course Director.

The centre operates a diverse fleet of eight custom dive boats, including the Newton and Island Hopper models. These vessels are powered by high-performance Cummins turbo diesel engines, including twin 355 HP QSB 6.7 units and 600 HP QSB 8.6 motors, ensuring reliable transit to the dive sites.

The boats are designed for diver comfort and functionality, equipped with freshwater showers, toilets, and Wi-Fi access on board. They can accommodate up to 36 divers for group trips or private charters. Nitrox is available for those using enriched air on their excursions.

The shore-based facilities include a retail shop and a dedicated dive centre. For those requiring equipment, a full range of kit is available for hire, including BCDs, regulators, computers, and torches. Specific packages are available for those needing a core set of kit such as a BCD, regulator, and manifold.

Nitrox is readily available for divers, with various options for cylinder fills. The centre also provides specialized kit like Avelo equipment for those undertaking that specific certification.

The reefs are teeming with large schools of reef fish and various species of tropical fish. You will often encounter snapper schools, including schoolmaster snapper, as well as grunts, french grunts, and sergeant majors. Larger predators such as Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), Amberjack (Seriola), and various jacks (Carangidae) are also part of the regular ecosystem.

For those interested in larger pelagics, the area hosts Caribbean reef sharks, reef sharks, and occasional bull sharks. You may also spot eagle rays (Aetobatus), spotted eagle rays, and southern stingrays (Hypanus americanus).

Sea turtles are a common sight, with hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta), and other species frequenting the area. You might also see grouper (Epinephelus) species, including black groupers, Nassau groupers, and the massive Goliath grouper (Epinephelus itajara), alongside various species of moray eel (Muraenidae).

In the smaller details of the reef, look for colorful corals, sponges (Porifera), and Christmas tree tubeworms. The macro life includes various crabs, coral crabs, shrimp (Caridea), and gobies (Gobiidae).
