Neptune Diving Resort Santander is a small seaside resort in Looc, with four rooms set among tropical greenery. The atmosphere is more relaxed base than large holiday complex: you have a garden, a terrace, a shared lounge and a private beach area, with the sea doing most of the entertaining.

That scale suits you if you prefer a place with a straightforward rhythm. There is somewhere to sit, somewhere to eat, and enough outdoor space to let the day slow down properly. The resort also welcomes children of any age, allows pets, and has a children's outdoor play area, so it is not reserved solely for divers travelling in pairs.

A 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, a tour desk and room service keep the practical side simple. Free WiFi is available in the public areas rather than described as a room feature, which is worth knowing before you plan to spend the evening conducting serious business from bed.

The address is Looc, Santander, Cebu, Philippines, on the southern part of Cebu. Looc Beach is within 100 metres, while Santander-Liloan Port is 500 metres away. The resort has a private beach area, and the local beach can be reached on foot from the property. Santander Beach is about 1.5 miles away by car.

The position is useful for moving around this corner of Cebu rather than for wandering into a town centre. Sumilon Island Sand Bar Beach is about 5 miles away, Tan-awan Beach about 5 miles, and Aguinid Falls about 7 miles by car. Several small rest areas are also close by, with Purok 11 Rest Area roughly half a mile away.

This is a coastal base with access to ferries, beaches, islands and waterfalls. The nearest listed airport is Sibulan Airport, around 49 miles away; Mactan-Cebu International Airport is roughly 150 km from the resort. In other words, the arrival needs organising rather than improvising at the terminal.

The accommodation is deliberately limited to four rooms, so this is not the place for a long corridor and a hunt for your door. The choice is essentially between a large double bed for a couple and twin beds when two divers prefer separate sleeping arrangements. The twin option also makes practical sense for friends sharing without negotiating who gets the edge of the mattress.

Rooms have air conditioning, a fan, tiled flooring, a seating area, a wardrobe or closet, a clothes rack and a personal safe. The attached private bathroom has a shower, toilet and slippers. After a hot day outdoors, air conditioning and a proper shower are the useful details; the seating area gives you somewhere to stop before heading back out for food.

Views are part of the room description, and some rooms have a private entrance. Soundproof rooms and soundproofing are also listed, which may appeal if your idea of an evening is a quiet drink rather than a conversation carried across the property. Non-smoking rooms and allergy-free rooms are available. Housekeeping, laundry and ironing services are offered, with the latter two arranged as services rather than room equipment.

The in-house restaurant is Tan-Aw Santander, formerly known as Lantaw Restaurant. It serves Asian resort cuisine, with the dining setting described around views and a breeze rather than formal ceremony. The flavour profile is clear enough: lime-like sourness, palm sugar, mango and chilli, with the sort of sweet-and-sharp combination that wakes up a tired appetite.

There is one restaurant and one bar. After-meal drinks are available at the bar, while room service lets you keep the evening particularly simple when the legs have had enough of the day. A shared lounge and TV area provide another place to sit once dinner is finished.

Breakfast arrangements and a board formula are not set out, so the restaurant is best understood as the on-site meal option rather than an all-inclusive package. Special-diet menus can be prepared on request, packed lunches are available, and barbecue facilities are present for a more informal meal outdoors. Fruit and children's meals are also available.

The private beach area, sun terrace, garden and outdoor furniture give you several places to stop without needing a formal programme. There is also an outdoor fireplace and a picnic area, useful if the evening calls for sitting outside rather than returning straight to the room. The resort has no pool listed, so the shoreline is the main place for a swim.

Snorkelling and water-sport facilities are available on site, and boat excursions can be arranged. On land, you can take up cycling, hiking or a walk along the coast, with badminton equipment available for something less ambitious. The local beach is also described as a place to watch the sunset, which is a respectable activity requiring no booking and very little exertion.

For a fuller day away from the resort, the listed excursions include Sumilon Island beach and island hopping, a sunset cruise, Aguinid Falls, and walking, trekking or running. Planet Action Adventures covers more energetic options such as jungle trekking, canyoning, river climbing, mountain biking, volcano trekking and horse riding. If the muscles object, massages include foot, back, head, hand and full-body treatments, while a hot-spring bath is also available.

Check-in runs from 14:00 and check-out until 12:00. The front desk operates around the clock, with express and private check-in and check-out available. Luggage storage is useful if your onward journey does not match the room timetable, and the tour desk can help arrange local outings.

An airport shuttle is available on request, and private transfers between Cebu City and the resort can be arranged through the reservations team. The route from Cebu City involves travelling to the south bus terminal, taking a bus towards Santander, getting off at Liloan Elementary School and continuing by tricycle to Lower Liloan. From Dumaguete City, the route uses Sibulan pier, the ferry to Liloan in Cebu and then a tricycle to the resort.

Free WiFi covers the public areas. Pets are allowed, although charges may apply, and a minimarket on site can save you a separate trip for small essentials. Payment before arrival by bank transfer is part of the booking process, so keep an eye on the instructions sent after reservation. Children of any age are welcome, but cots and extra beds are not available.
