Thai design, tropical gardens and a beachfront setting give Amari Koh Samui a polished resort feel without turning the place into a theme park. You have three wings to choose from, several places to eat, a spa, pools and enough room to disappear for an afternoon when the sensible plan is simply to do very little.

English is spoken by the hotel team, alongside Thai, German, French, Hebrew and Chinese. That matters when you are sorting out an early departure, a room request or the small practical details that become surprisingly important once you are tired, salty and hungry.

Couples can keep the stay simple: beach, pool, food and a short walk into Chaweng when you want more movement. Families are well catered for too, with family accommodation, a Kids' Club, babysitting and a dedicated family pool with water toys.

The address is on Chaweng Beach Road in Chaweng, Thailand, directly beside Chaweng Beach. The sand is white, access to the beach is direct and the resort sits on the quieter northern stretch rather than in the thick of the action. The sea is therefore part of the daily layout, not something you have to schedule.

Chaweng Walking Street is about 1.2 miles away, while Central Festival Samui is a brisk 15-minute walk. You can also reach nearby restaurants and cafés on foot, including Prego Italian Restaurant, Samui Natien and Godang Cafe & Bar. Chaweng Lake is about 1.7 miles away, and Chaweng Viewpoint is about 3.5 miles away for a change of scenery.

The airport is close, at about 1 mile from the resort by road. That is useful when your holiday starts with a flight and ends with a boat morning, rather than with a long island transfer and a growing suspicion that the hotel may be on another island entirely.

The rooms are spread across the Garden Wing, Thai Village Wing and Beach Wing, with contemporary Thai details, air conditioning and outdoor seating on a private balcony or terrace. A well-stocked minibar and electric kettle are practical touches when you return wanting cold water, tea or something that does not require a conversation before dinner. Bathrooms have a hairdryer, premium amenities and a separate bath or shower.

For two people, the king rooms keep things straightforward, while the twin rooms make sense when you are sharing with a diving companion and prefer not to negotiate bed territory at the end of a long day. The ocean-view rooms and the Beach Wing junior suites are the choices for those who want the sea to feature in the room itself. For families or groups, the two-bedroom suites give you separate sleeping areas and more useful space than trying to make one room do everything.

The Garden Wing Superior rooms are the sensible middle ground for a couple or a small family, with pool-view and pool-side versions available. If you are travelling with children, the family duplex and two-bedroom options are the ones worth examining first. Soundproof rooms are available, and daily housekeeping keeps the practical side of the stay under control.

One caveat deserves attention before you book: the Garden and Thai Village wings are separated from the Beach Wing by Chaweng Beach Road. You need to cross the road to reach the Beach Wing facilities, including the beachfront pool. All areas are accessed by stairs, and rooms booked together may not be in the same building.

You have two restaurants at the resort, plus Amaya Café and Aqua Eatery & Bar for the less formal moments. Amaya Food Gallery is the all-day dining option, with Thai street food and popular international dishes, while its live cooking stations bring a bit of movement to the meal rather than leaving you to study a menu as if it were a dive briefing.

Prego Italian Restaurant handles the Italian side, with wood-fired pizzas and authentic Italian cooking. That is useful variety over a longer stay: spicy noodles one evening, pizza the next, and no need to leave the property when your legs have had enough activity for one day. Room service is also available.

Amaya Bar serves cocktails beside the sea, under the stars. There is a snack bar, a coffee house, special-diet menus on request and a choice of continental, Asian, American and buffet breakfast options. The hotel also runs Thai cooking classes and pizza-making classes, so you can spend a non-diving day learning something more useful than the contents of the minibar.

Three outdoor pools divide the resort into different moods. The Beach Wing Pool sits beside the beach for ocean views and sunbathing, the Thai Village Wing Pool is tucked into tropical planting, and the Garden Wing Pool is family-oriented with water toys for children. Pool and beach towels, sun loungers and umbrellas are available, so you can choose between salt water, fresh water or the traditional diver's discipline of remaining horizontal.

Breeze Spa offers massage and body scrubs, with a spa lounge and relaxation area for the part of the afternoon when conversation feels ambitious. The FIT Centre provides a place to move without pretending that a treadmill is a substitute for being underwater. Couples' massages are available, along with head, neck, back, foot, hand and full-body treatments.

When you want more than poolside recovery, the resort offers live music, cultural classes, cooking classes, themed dinner nights, canoeing, snorkelling, on-site water sports, table tennis and boat excursions. A golf course is within 3 km. Families can use the Kids' Club, indoor and outdoor play areas, a children's playground and babysitting services, while the Garden Wing pool gives younger guests their own aquatic distraction.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to midnight, and check-out is by 12:00. You need photo identification and the card linked to the booking at arrival, and the hotel asks you to share your expected arrival time. Early check-in and late check-out are available on request. A cash damage deposit is required on arrival and is returned after the room has been inspected at check-out.

An airport shuttle is available through the hotel, and private or shared arrangements should be organised with the property before travelling. With Samui International Airport about 1 mile away by road, the transfer is short. Free Wi-Fi covers the resort, and the 24-hour reception, concierge, tour desk, currency exchange, luggage storage, car hire and laundry service take care of the jobs that otherwise eat into beach time.

The three-wing layout is worth keeping in mind: crossing Chaweng Beach Road may be part of your routine if you choose a Garden or Thai Village room but want to use the Beach Wing facilities.
