Rumblefish Adventure

Rumblefish Adventure has been a fixture of the Phuket diving community since October 2003. Based at Kata Beach, the centre has evolved from a local dive club into a highly regarded PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre (IDC), managing operations under the guidance of founder and PADI Course Director, Thien.

The centre is recognised for its rigorous approach to safety and education, maintaining a record of zero incidents or accidents across more than 220,000 registered dives. This professional foundation is paired with a deep commitment to the local environment through their 'Care & Share' initiative, focusing on coral conservation and reef protection.

The team is led by experienced professionals, ensuring that training meets high educational standards. For those pursuing professional development, the centre serves as an IDC, providing the necessary pathway for aspiring instructors.

Instruction is highly personalised, with a maximum ratio of two students per instructor. This ensures that whether you are completing your first Open Water Diver course or working through advanced specialties, you receive dedicated attention and guidance.

Beyond the water, the centre supports the local community and maintains an eco-responsible footprint by utilising PADI eLearning to reduce its environmental impact. For divers looking to stay close to the action, the non-smoking Rumblefish Hostel offers various accommodation options, including mixed dormitories, female-only dormitories, and private rooms.

As a PADI 5 Star IDC, the centre offers an extensive catalogue of training, ranging from Discover Scuba Diving and the Open Water Diver course to professional levels such as Divemaster and IDC staff training. For those looking to expand their technical skills, specialties include Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and the PADI Self-Reliant Diver course.

Specialised training is also available for photographers and conservationists, including Digital Underwater Photography and the PADI AWARE Sharks & Rays Conservation Diver course. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of diver needs, including Scuba Refresher programmes, Night Diver, and even Adaptive Diver courses. For younger divers, a full suite of PADI Bubblemaker and Junior programmes is available.

The centre provides full equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit, including masks, snorkels, fins, and wetsuits. For those needing a complete setup, full rental packages are available.

On-site facilities include freshwater showers and western-style toilets to assist with post-dive rinsing and changing. For boat departures from Chalong Pier, the centre provides a shuttle service from your hotel to ensure a smooth transition to the dive vessels.

The reefs around Phuket are home to a vast array of colourful marine life. You will encounter many species of reef fish, including snappers, parrotfish, and various species of angelfish (Pomacanthidae). Large schools of fusiliers (Caesio) and jacks (Carangidae) are common, alongside more solitary residents like the Napoleon wrasse and various groupers.

For those interested in macro photography, the area is a treasure trove. Look closely for nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and various species of shrimp, including cleaner shrimp (Lysmata). You may also spot ghost pipefish (Solenostomidae), stonefish (Scorpaenidae), and various types of moray eels (Muraenidae) tucked into the reef structure.

In the deeper waters and around the pinnacles, larger residents appear. Blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus) and leopard sharks (Triakis semifasciata) are frequently seen, while the more seasonal visits include the Whale shark (Rhincodon typus) and Manta ray (Mobula alfredi). Turtles are also a regular sight across many of the local dive sites.

Diving conditions in the region vary significantly with the seasons. The optimal period for diving is between November and April, while the summer months from May to October offer calmer conditions.

Water currents can range from very weak to very strong depending on the specific site, the tides, and the season. Sites like Koh Tachai and the Phi Phi Islands can experience significant current, requiring confident divers with good buoyancy control.
