Tech Dive Asia

Based in Phuket, Tech Dive Asia serves as a dedicated hub for technical divers looking to push beyond recreational limits. The centre is positioned to take advantage of the region's varied underwater topography, offering access to complex wreck sites, deep walls, and cave systems across Phuket, Krabi, and Phi Phi.

The team is composed of highly experienced independent instructors and instructor trainers specialising in technical, rebreather, and cave diving. This expertise allows for a highly personalised approach, where training and guided expeditions are tailored to the specific objectives and experience levels of each diver.

The centre's teaching philosophy prioritises discipline, methodical skill execution, and situational awareness. They were the first in Thailand to implement the new range of PADI technical courses launched in November 2023, ensuring divers have access to the most current training standards.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering almost every facet of technical diving. For those moving from recreational to technical, the PADI TecRec series—including Tec 40, 45, 50, and 65 Trimix—provides a structured progression. They also offer a full suite of TDI certifications, ranging from Intro to Tech and Advanced Nitrox to Extended Range and Advanced Trimix.

Rebreather training is a core speciality, with courses available through SSI, PADI, and TDI, covering levels from Tec 40 CCR up to advanced CCR configurations. For those interested in overhead environments, the centre provides comprehensive cave diving training through TDI, including Intro to Cave, Full Cave, and specialized CCR Cave and DPV Cave courses. Sidemount and advanced wreck penetration are also available via TDI.

The centre provides a full range of technical equipment for hire, ensuring you have access to high-quality kit for your dives. This includes specialized gear necessary for advanced profiles and technical configurations.

On-site facilities support various gas requirements, with Nitrox and Trimix available for divers. The centre also holds the largest selection of Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPV) in Thailand, making it a primary destination for those looking to extend their range during deep or long-duration dives.

The waters around Phuket and the surrounding islands are home to a diverse array of pelagics. You can expect to encounter various sharks, including Blacktip reef sharks, Grey reef sharks (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos), and Whitetip reef sharks (Triaenodon obesus), alongside species such as the Bamboo shark (Chiloscyllium) and Leopard shark (Triakis semifasciata). Larger visitors like Manta rays (Mobula alfredi), Eagle rays (Aetobatus), and Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) add to the region's biological richness.

The reef ecosystems are vibrant, populated by large schools of Fusilier (Caesio), Jacks (Carangidae), and various Snappers (Lutjanus). You will also see plenty of colourful reef fish, including Butterflyfish (Chaetodon), Angelfish (Pomacanthidae), and Surgeonfish (Acanthuridae), alongside many species of corals and Soft coral (Alcyonacea) that provide the structural foundation for the habitat.

For those with an eye for macro life, the area offers significant rewards. Look for Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), various species of Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and Ornate ghost pipefish (Solenostomus paradoxus). The seabed and reef crevices also host a variety of crustaceans and other small creatures, including Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), Cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various species of shrimp.

The region benefits from warm water year-round, providing consistent conditions for technical training and expeditions. The varied underwater landscape of Phuket, Krabi, and Phi Phi allows for a wide range of dive profiles, from reef flats to deep walls and wrecks.
