ACDC Diving

Located in A Muang, Phuket, ACDC Diving has been a fixture of the local diving community for over 14 years. The centre is established as an SSI and TDI facility, while also providing training through PADI and IANTD frameworks. It serves as a hub for divers looking to progress beyond recreational limits into the more demanding realms of technical diving.

The centre is particularly noted for its ability to facilitate complex diving profiles, including rebreather operations and cave exploration. From the shallow reefs of Racha Yai to the deep, current-swept walls of Racha Noi, the team organises excursions that cater to a wide spectrum of certification levels.

The team consists of fully certified instructors who all hold valid Thai work permits, ensuring a professional and stable environment for your training. They operate with a strict focus on safety and individual attention, maintaining a ratio of one instructor for every two students during OWD and Discover Scuba Diving courses. For experienced divers on excursions, the guide ratio is kept to a maximum of four divers per guide.

Communication is streamlined for international divers, with instruction and guidance available in both English and Russian. This multilingual approach ensures that technical details and safety protocols are clearly understood during complex training modules. The centre also runs dedicated programmes for younger divers, including PADI Bubble Maker and SSI Scuba Ranger courses for those aged 8 and up.

With over two decades of industry experience, the staff brings a wealth of local knowledge to every dive. This expertise is vital when navigating the varying conditions of the Andaman Sea, particularly when planning technical decompression dives or cave penetrations.

The training catalogue is extensive, covering the entire progression from Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver through to Divemaster and Instructor Development Courses (IDC). They offer a variety of specialised pathways, including PADI Master Scuba Diver and advanced skills such as Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Nitrox Diver.

For those moving into technical territory, the centre provides robust training in sidemount, deco procedures, and extended range diving. They are one of the few centres in Phuket capable of teaching Intro To Cave, Full Cave, and Trimix certifications. Their technical curriculum also includes PADI Tec 40-50 and PADI Tec Sidemount modules.

The centre maintains a modern inventory of rental kit, featuring reliable brands such as Scubapro and Aqualung. Divers can hire full sets including BCDs, regulators, 3mm wetsuits, masks, and fins. For those requiring dive computers, these are available for daily hire.

On the technical side, the facility is well-equipped to support advanced profiles. They maintain their own cylinder parc, including S80 and S100 sizes, as well as sidemount and stager cylinders for Nitrox and oxygen use. For rebreather divers, they offer a range of rental units including Dive Rite O2ptima Chestmount, AP, Poseidon, JJ CCR, and KISS Sidewinder.

The reefs are teeming with a high diversity of marine life. You will frequently encounter reef fish, groupers (Epinephelus), barracudas, and snappers alongside various species of moray eels and scorpionfish. The rocky outcrops and walls are often home to octopuses, cuttlefish, and various nudibranchs, making the area a favourite for macro photography enthusiasts.

In the deeper sections and along the walls, look for larger predators such as whitetip reef sharks, leopard sharks, and various species of rays. Turtles and sea snakes are also common residents of the local reefs. During the high season, blacktip reef sharks are regularly sighted.

Seasonality plays a role in the larger pelagics; manta rays are most commonly seen between October and April, particularly at Racha Noi. Whale sharks may also be encountered during the rainy season. The macro life remains a constant draw, with seahorses, ghost pipefish, shrimp, and colourful anemones decorating the coral structures year-round.

Diving conditions in the region vary significantly depending on the site and lunar cycle. Racha Noi and Shark Point are known for strong currents, with the North and South Tips of Racha Noi often experiencing heavy flow. The King Cruiser wreck can also be subject to strong currents during full and new moon periods.

Some sites, such as the caves in the Phi Phi Islands, may present specific challenges like haloclines or variable visibility. In deeper technical sites like the Sra Keow cave systems, vertical currents and narrow passages require advanced training and experience.
