Azores Diving

Azores Sub Dive Center is situated on the southern coast of São Miguel, specifically within the Marina de Vila Franca do Campo. This location provides a direct gateway to the unique volcanic topography of the Azores, where underwater hydrothermal sources and steep drop-offs define the landscape.

The centre operates with affiliations to PADI, SSI, and CMAS, catering to a wide spectrum of experience levels. Whether you are looking for your first breath underwater or are a seasoned diver seeking deep seamount expeditions, the centre is positioned to access the archipelago's most significant marine habitats.

The team operates with a focus on professional standards and safety, holding certifications from PADI, SSI, and CMAS. They provide instruction in English and Portuguese, ensuring clear communication during briefings and training sessions.

Training is structured to support progression from entry-level certifications through to professional levels such as Divemaster. The centre also offers specialised skills training, including underwater navigation, buoyancy control, and marine ecology, to help you refine your technique in the Atlantic's unique conditions.

A comprehensive range of courses is available through PADI and SSI, covering the entire diver progression. Beginners can start with Scuba Diver or Open Water Diver courses, while those looking to advance can enrol in Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, or Rescue Diver programmes.

Specialised training is also provided to enhance specific skill sets. You can take courses in Nitrox, Underwater Navigation, Perfect Buoyancy, and Equipment Techniques. The waters around São Miguel are a magnet for large pelagics. You can expect to encounter Manta ray (Mobula alfredi), sharks, and various species of mobula rays and devil rays. Large predatory fish such as Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda), wahoos, tuna (Thunnus), and various jacks (Carangidae) are common in the blue.

In the reef and seamount environments, the biodiversity is significant. You will find various reef fish, jack (Carangidae), and schooling fish such as anchovies and bluefish. Large Ocean sunfish (Mola mola) and stingrays are also known to frequent these waters.

For those interested in macro life, the crevices and reef structures host Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), Red scorpionfish (Scorpaena scrofa), and various nudibranchs like Chromodoris willani. The volcanic terrain also provides excellent habitats for moray eels (Muraenidae) and various species of seabream.
