You are choosing a large resort with a peaceful side, not a tiny hideaway pretending that a single sun lounger is a wellness concept. The sea-facing setting, outdoor pool and evening programme suit divers travelling as a couple, while the gardens, children’s play area and family room arrangements make it workable for mixed-age groups. The address is Avda. de Italia in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria, facing the sea and directly beside the beach. The rooms are designed to give you room to spread out after a day in the water. For two adults, the Double or Twin Room is the uncomplicated choice, with twin beds that can suit friends travelling together as well as couples who prefer separate sleeping arrangements. The Triple Room adds a sofa bed, making it the sensible option when three people need to share without turning the room into a gear cupboard. Travelling alone, you can choose a single-use room; for an adult and child, the room arrangements include twin beds or a sofa bed depending on the option selected.

Every room has a flat-screen satellite television, radio, telephone and free internet access. Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side moving, and the lift serves upper floors, while accessible rooms and wheelchair-accessible units are available for guests who need them. There are no extra beds, so choose the room arrangement carefully if a child is joining you; cots for younger children can be requested.

The main restaurant, Las Palmeras, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is prepared traditionally, with buffet service that includes six themed dinner menus, show cooking and dishes prepared during service rather than left to surrender quietly under a heat lamp. Ice cream, cocktails and milkshakes are available there, so you can keep lunch simple when a full restaurant meal feels too ambitious after a morning in the water.

You can also arrange a special lunch or dinner on the hotel terrace or in your room, built around your chosen ingredients and drinks. Dinner has a dress code: gentlemen are required to wear long trousers. It is a small point, but one worth knowing before you arrive in holiday shorts and discover that the buffet has standards.

The heated outdoor pool is the obvious landing zone for a quiet afternoon, with sun loungers, umbrellas and a solarium facing the sea. The gardens give you plenty of space to move away from the main pool area, while the poolside service means you can order something cold without turning a short break into a full sortie. There is also a children’s pool and play area for family groups.

If your legs still have an opinion after diving, the hotel offers tennis, table tennis, billiards, minigolf and a fitness centre. Yoga classes are available as well, and massage treatments provide the more sensible alternative when stretching has become an argument with your shoulders. Bicycle hire, golf within 1.9 miles and excursions such as boat trips, island visits, waterfalls, markets and snorkelling add options beyond the grounds.

Evenings are not left entirely to the television. Live music or shows run every evening, with themed dinner nights, bingo and broadcast live sports also part of the programme. You can join in, watch from the edge or retreat to the gardens; all three are legitimate post-dive activities.

The 24-hour reception gives you somewhere to sort out the practicalities, with a tour desk, car hire, luggage storage and a wake-up service. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. Laundry, dry cleaning and ironing are available, and medical assistance can be arranged on request. A safe is available at reception, which is worth using for the small items that should not accompany you to the beach.

Check-in runs from 2pm until midnight, and check-out from 1am until noon. The minimum age for checking in is 18; guests under 18 must arrive with a parent or official guardian. Children of any age are welcome, although children aged 13 and over are treated as adults for the accommodation arrangements. Cots for children aged up to two can be requested, subject to the selected room arrangement, while extra beds are not available.

Dogs up to 7 kg are accepted on request. The hotel also has rooms adapted for guests with reduced mobility, including wheelchair-accessible units.
