Lanzarote does not do soft edges: black and red volcanic ground meets the Atlantic, and Hipotels Natura Palace puts you right on that line in Playa Blanca.

The invitation

Adults only, with a minimum age of 16, this is a hotel for couples or solo travellers who prefer their evenings without family-club noise. The setting is built around the Atlantic, landscaped gardens and space to sit down properly once the day has finished doing its worst to your legs.

Two outdoor pools, a spa, a fitness centre and several places for a drink give you options without turning the hotel into an obstacle course. The atmosphere is geared towards rest and easy evenings: a coffee, a swim, a treatment, then dinner without having to leave the grounds. Sensible, particularly when your idea of nightlife is checking tomorrow’s wind forecast.

Hipotels Natura Palace has four-star facilities and free WiFi throughout the hotel. A 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, concierge service, tour desk and currency exchange keep the useful things close at hand.

The point on the map

You are on the seafront in Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote, with direct access to a golden-sand beach. The hotel sits in a volcanic coastal landscape rather than in the middle of town, so the Atlantic is the immediate neighbour and Playa Blanca’s centre is something you reach when you want more choice.

Montaña Roja Beach is about 0.5 miles away on foot, while Flamingo Beach is roughly 0.8 miles away. Playa Blanca beach is about 1.7 miles from the hotel on foot, and Playa Dorada is around 2 miles away. For a nearby meal away from the hotel, Restaurante Grill El Argentino is about 50 feet away; Natura Beach Tapas Bar and Ristorante Italiano Luna Rossa are each roughly 700 feet away.

Lanzarote Airport is 15 miles away in a straight line, or around 18 miles by road and about 33 minutes by car. Timanfaya National Park is about 15 miles away by road, with the island’s volcanic landscape making a more convincing excursion than another identical resort promenade.

Rooms, and the nights

Every room has a balcony or terrace, which gives you somewhere to sit outside rather than balancing a drink on the bathroom shelf. Air conditioning matters here: after salt, sun and a day spent moving between boat and shore, a cool room is not a decorative extra. A private bathroom, towels, slippers, bathrobe and hairdryer keep the unpacking straightforward.

For two people, the standard Double Room keeps things simple with twin beds and an outdoor space. The Premium Double Room gives you more room to spread out and adds a sofa bed, making it the more practical choice when three adults are sharing. The Suite with Sea View is the one to look at when the view is part of the booking rather than something you hope appears between two buildings.

A wardrobe, clothes rack, drying rack and desk cover the ordinary business of a holiday. The minibar is useful for keeping a cold drink nearby, while free WiFi and a flat-screen TV deal with the less glamorous part of the evening. The hotel is non-smoking throughout, and upper floors are accessible by lift.

The taste of the place

The main restaurant is a buffet with show cooking, working across Canarian and international dishes. The chef changes the daily selection, so dinner is not condemned to become a seven-day rerun of the same plate. Breakfast is served as a buffet, giving you the practical start required before a morning departure rather than a ceremonial wait for one perfectly arranged egg.

At the pool, the Snack-Pool Bar handles light meals and drinks when a full restaurant sitting feels like unnecessary administration. The Lobby Bar is the quieter option for an afternoon drink in the hotel’s large hall. There is also the Marea Lounge Bar a few metres from the hotel, with a sea-facing terrace, signature cocktails and live music in the evening.

Special-diet menus are available on request. The buffet restaurant has a dress code: sportswear, swimwear and flip-flops are not accepted, so keep one respectable outfit within reach instead of attempting to negotiate dinner in pool attire.

Do something, or do nothing

Two outdoor pools give you a choice of water without requiring a timetable. One is heated during the winter months. Sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas, a sun terrace and gardens make the non-diving part of the day easy to arrange: swim, read, move to the shade, repeat as required.

The Talasso Natura Spa offers massages, mud baths, a sauna, jacuzzi and Vichy shower. Beauty treatments include facials, body treatments, scrubs and wraps, with manicures, pedicures and hairdressing also available. A massage carries an additional charge, but the important point for planning is that the treatment area is on site, not another excursion requiring shoes and transport.

If sitting still becomes difficult, you have a fitness centre, yoga classes, tennis, a multi-sports court, mini-golf, table tennis, darts, billiards and a games room. Bicycle hire and tennis equipment are available, and the evenings bring live music, shows, themed dinner nights and broadcast sports. The hotel also has a disco for nights when sleep can wait.

What to know before booking

Check-in starts from 14:00 and check-out runs until 12:00. You need to give the hotel your expected arrival time in advance, which is particularly useful if your transfer lands outside the usual rhythm of the resort. The minimum age for check-in is 18, while the hotel operates as an adults-only property with a minimum age of 16.

Lanzarote Airport is the straightforward arrival point, around 33 minutes away by car in normal conditions. An airport shuttle is available on request, and car hire can be arranged through the hotel. Free public parking is available nearby, although spaces cannot be reserved; that is worth keeping in mind if you are planning to drive rather than arrive by transfer.

WiFi is free across the property, and a lift serves the upper floors. There is a safe, daily housekeeping, laundry and dry-cleaning services, packed lunches, a tour desk and luggage storage. The hotel accepts cash, and pets are not allowed.

Protecting what you came to see

The hotel’s setting is the main environmental fact you will notice: a seafront position in a volcanic landscape, with Atlantic views and landscaped gardens. Beyond that, no specific certification or named environmental programme is attached to the property.
