Big Fish

Located on the south-west coast of Tenerife, Big Fish is situated directly on the sands of Playa Las Vistas in Los Cristianos. The centre is positioned just 200 metres from the water and sits in close proximity to the local port, making it a highly accessible base for both shore-based explorations and boat trips.

As a PADI 5 Star IDC centre, the facility is equipped to handle everything from your first Discover Scuba Diving experience to advanced professional training. The centre has been recently renovated, providing a modern environment for divers to prepare for their excursions into the vibrant Atlantic waters.

The team at Big Fish is international and multilingual, capable of guiding and instructing in several languages to suit a diverse range of divers. They maintain a focus on personalised attention by keeping group sizes small, ensuring that every diver receives the necessary guidance from their instructor or guide.

The centre is committed to eco-responsible diving and actively supports local marine conservation efforts. This professional approach extends to their training programmes, which cater to all ages, including specific programmes designed for children and seniors.

A complete range of PADI certifications is available on-site. For those starting their journey, the centre offers Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, and Open Water Diver courses, as well as ReActivate programmes.

Advanced divers can progress through Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, Wreck, and Navigation specialties. The centre also provides training in Sidemount, Dry Suit, and Buoyancy, alongside Rescue Diver and Divemaster programmes for those pursuing a professional career path.

The centre provides full equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit, featuring high-quality Mares products including wetsuits and adjustable fins with booties. For those looking to maintain their own gear, equipment servicing is available on-site.

Nitrox is available for use, and the centre is equipped with O2 safety supplies. The facility is designed for convenience, allowing divers to prepare for their trips in a recently renovated space near the shore.

The waters around Tenerife are home to a variety of large pelagics and reef fish. You can expect to see sea turtles (Cheloniidae), rays (Batoidea), and various schools of fish, including barracuda schools and sardine schools (Sardina pilchardus). Larger visitors such as dolphins (Delphinidae) and occasionally whales may be spotted in the area.

The reef habitats are enriched by diverse fixed life, including various corals, sponges (Porifera), and sea anemones (Actiniaria). You will often find colourful reef fish like parrotfish (Calotomus), damselfish (Pomacentridae), and wrasse (Labridae) navigating these structures.

For those interested in macro life, the seabed offers plenty of interest. Keep an eye out for octopus (Octopus vulgaris), moray eels (Muraenidae), and various crustaceans such as lobster (Homaridae) and crabs (Brachyura). You may also encounter nudibranchs, seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), and scorpionfish among the crevices.

The area experiences moderate currents at several sites, such as El Bufadero and Cueva de las Morenas, while others like La Caleta and El Condesito offer calmer, low-current conditions. Divers should be prepared for varying levels of surge and movement depending on the specific location and the day's swell.
