Ocean Trek - Tenerife

Located on the Costa Adeje, Ocean Trek is a well-established PADI 5 Star dive centre that has been operating in Tenerife since 1996. The base is situated near Torviscas, positioned conveniently between Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos, and Fanabe.

The local underwater topography is defined by its dramatic volcanic origins. You will find a landscape shaped by overhangs, tunnels, and various cave systems that provide a complex habitat for resident marine life. Most sites are located close to the coast, making them easily accessible for daily excursions.

Managed by a German-Spanish team, the centre operates with a focus on personal attention and safety. They organise two scheduled dive departures per day, typically at 09:30 and 13:30, and generally work with small groups to ensure a controlled environment.

Instruction is provided by experienced instructors covering all levels of the PADI system. For those travelling with family, the centre offers a complimentary baby-sitting service during dive sessions, allowing parents to focus on their training or exploration.

The course catalogue is comprehensive, covering the entire PADI progression. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diver, Scuba Diver, or Open Water Diver, while those looking to advance can enrol in Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, or Divemaster programmes.

Specialty training is also widely available to refine specific skills. You can choose from courses such as PADI Nitrox or Enriched Air, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Underwater Navigation, and Perfect Buoyancy, as well as specialised training in underwater photography, use of an underwater scooter, and boat diving.

Access to the dive sites is provided via minibus, jeep, or boat, with most transit times lasting no more than 30 minutes. For those requiring transport from the south of Tenerife, a complimentary pick-up service is available within a 10km radius of the centre.

The centre provides a full range of rental kit for divers who do not wish to carry their own equipment. This includes regulators, wetsuits, fins, and torches for those planning night dives.

Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time or manage nitrogen loading more effectively. The facility is designed to support both recreational enthusiasts and those undertaking formal training courses.

The volcanic structures and reef areas are home to a diverse array of fish. You will encounter various species including snapper (Lutjanus), parrotfish (Calotomus), damselfish, and wrasse (Labridae). Schools of bogue (Boops boops) and sardines (Sardina pilchardus) are common, alongside larger pelagics such as amberjack (Seriola) and barracuda schools.

In the sandy areas and around the rockwork, you can find several types of rays, including stingrays, eagle rays (Aetobatus), and devil rays. Sea turtles (Cheloniidae), specifically green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and loggerhead turtles, are also part of the local ecosystem. You may also spot moray eels (Anguilliformes), including black moray eels, and various species of grouper (Epinephelus).

Macro life and smaller residents include octopus (Octopus vulgaris), cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various crustaceans like the Canary Islands lobster (Homaridae). For those with a keen eye, you might find nudibranchs, seahorses (Hippocampus kuda), scorpionfish, and various species of shrimp (Caridea).

The diving environment is characterised by volcanic terrain that can include various currents depending on the specific site and tide. Night diving is an available option for those looking to experience the reef after dark.
